Big East Rookie of the Year Moe Harkless is heading to the NBA after just one season at St. John's, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed last night. Red Storm coach Steve Lavin and Harkless are scheduled to appear at a Madison Square Garden news conference this afternoon. During a season in which St. John's went 13-19 while starting five freshmen much of the year, Harkless averaged 15.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. The 6-8 Harkless often had to play in the low post for the Red Storm but figures to play more of a small forward role in the pros because of his shooting range and mobility. Newsday
