Pau Gasol: THANKS!!! Thanks to all of you this is an unforgettable day. You have voted us, my brother Marc and myself, and chosen us to start at the AllStar game that will be celebrated in New York on February 15th… I still can’t believe it! It’s a huge honor that we’ve just received as basketball players. Our family is full of pride and happiness on this moment that we will keep with us forever and that we want to share with all of you. I want to specially thank my teammates, our coaching staff and everyone that helps and/or has helped me be the player that I am. I will be very proud to represent the Chicago Bulls organization and the city of Chicago on such a special event. paugasol.com

Jorge Sierra: First European starters in NBA All-Star Game history: Pau and Marc Gasol. It's 2015. Dirk Nowitzki and Tony Parker have never been voted as starters for the All-Star. Dirk replaced a starter in both 2007 and 2010, though. Twitter @hoopshype

As far as this idea that Thibodeau was losing the locker room or the players were tired of his grind-it-out mentality, that seemed to be an idea very lost on Gasol. “That was not a concern,’’ Gasol said. “To me, honestly, I don’t think Tom is that hardcore. I don’t think we practice that hard. We do what we need to do, and he tries his best with us just like we try our best. We have to get on the same page, not really pointing fingers but being positive with each other.’’ Chicago Sun-Times

I wrote last week that Chicago Bulls big man Joakim Noah has privately expressed concerns about his left knee, surgically repaired last spring for torn cartilage, according to a source, while publicly saying it is coming along fine. Sources close to Noah insist the knee is improving and that the greater issue with his diminished statistics and struggle to defend his Defensive Player of the Year title has to do with having to spend more time away from the basket defensively, thanks to the addition of Pau Gasol. While Gasol has significantly boosted Chicago's offense, a case could be made that he is allowing more points than he is producing. Noah is so frustrated, one source said, that he'd welcome coming off the bench to play his normal center position rather than continue to defend stretch 4s and not be in position to quarterback the defense. Nikola Vucevic dunked so hard on Paul Gasol, it looked like the Bulls center exploded. Gasol lost his balance coming down, or was shook from the experience, and collapsed backward. On your 3rd or 4th viewing, please take a look at the Orlando bench. Is that rookie Aaron Gordon holding everyone back? I’d love to be the designated holder-back guy on an NBA bench one night.
