HoopsHype Pete D'Alessandro rumors

"We need to be able to have impact on these players in their private time," says Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro. "It doesn't have to be us vs. you. It can be a partnership." A lovely sentiment, at least in theory. But how long will it be until biometric details impact contract negotiations? How long until graphs of off-court behavior are leaked to other teams or the press? How long until employment hinges on embracing technology that some find invasive? "Employers dictating the health care of their employees is a conflict of interest that cannot be overcome," says Alan C. Milstein, a leading bioethics attorney and sports litigator who often represents NBA players. "I just refuse to believe that the purpose of monitoring on any long-term basis is the health of the employee. If the purpose is to predict performance, that's not a health care purpose. That's an economic purpose." ESPN.com

Without further ado, I present 2015 Mock Draft 1.0, Summer Forecast edition. DeMarcus Cousins: I love what we’re doing. Love what we’re doing. Pete (D’Alessandro), he’s real aggressive, going after stuff, trying for players we probably have no chance at getting. One of these times we’re going to get lucky, and in the past we wouldn’t do that. Do you know how good that feels? Since Vivek (Ranadive), Pete, Michael (Malone), Mullie (Chris Mullin), Mitch (Richmond) and those guys walked through the damn door, things have been on the rise. I am totally behind it. Michael is like me; he sees everything in black and white. I love the fact Pete keeps trying stuff. I am totally behind all this. Rudy, the Collison move, thinking Omri (Casspi) can stretch the floor. And the rookie, that kid Stauskas can really play. He makes the game easy and has an impact even when he’s not scoring. I am so happy to be a part of this, of what we’re doing. Sacramento Bee

Sacramento Kings officials are bringing two Hall of Famers to meet forward Rudy Gay early next week in hopes of convincing him to exercise the option in his contract for next season, sources told Yahoo Sports. Gay has to decide by June 30 whether to exercise a contract option that will pay him $19.3 million next season. Hall of Famers Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond, a former Kings star, are expected to join Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, general manager Pete D'Alessandro and head coach Michael Malone when they meet with Gay. The Kings begin hosting college prospects for pre-draft workouts this morning with the first of two four-player sessions. General manager Pete D’Alessandro is much more comfortable this year preparing for the workouts. Last year, he was playing catch-up with the Kings after being hired in June. “A lot of talking with agents right now, lining things up,” D’Alessandro said. “I think there are a lot of strategies that are employed by agencies, agents and players through the process and you have to work through the process.” Sacramento Bee

Q: A lot of Kings fans talk about adding a true center next to Demarcus so he can play powerforward as he did in his rookie year. What is your perspective on this? Pete D'Alessandro: It's something I've honestly been considering since the day I got here. It is amazing that a big man can be so versatile and we're really fortunate that we can even have this discussion and I'd really like to know what our fans think about this. Can we get a little help from redditors... DeMarcus at PF or C??? NBA.com

Q: What are some of the biggest needs you see for our team to turn us into a playoff caliber team? Pete D'Alessandro: I think it's still shooting and playmaking. NBA.com

“Our fans know – I think we’ve been very clear about how we feel about their level of talent. I would say with Rudy, I’ve been talking to his agent since the day he arrived. We didn’t trade him to have him for a year, so we’re going to continue meeting with Rudy. One of the things we thought when we did the deal (to acquire) Rudy was it gives him a real chance to not just know our front office, but to know our community. I think he’s really impressed by the community in many ways – because our community really is impressive. One of the proudest moments for me this season, as a general manager, was when he, Aaron and Quincy came walking down the stands when they first arrived and everyone was just cheering. You could see it on their faces, and I think it makes you proud to be a part of a community that supports a team like that. He’s getting to know us from that level, so I think it’s really important. “At the end of the day, this is a business. A decision needs to be made, and there’s a lot involved, but we’ve made no mistake about it with him, and he knows what our intent is with him. NBA.com
