Next season ain’t going away for the Nets’ former interim coach. Neither is tomorrow. There’s a new future in sight. The ESPN faculty reached out to Carlesimo and will soon bring him in as an NBA studio analyst for the rest of the playoffs. Carlesimo is filling the spot Flip Saunders had before he recently left ESPN to become the T-Wolves’ president of basketball operations. Carlesimo will work on site at the NBA Finals, too. There’s a chance his role will be expanded next season. “The conversations have been let’s do the playoffs,” Carlesimo said. “Then we’ll sit down and talk about the future.” New York Daily News

Carlesimo has extensive broadcast experience, having worked for NBC Sports, Spurs broadcasts, Fox Sports West and ESPN Radio. Now, he’s just another coach on the beach. Another guy with the same dilemma all these cats have: Do they use broadcasting as a weigh station until the next coaching gig comes along? Or do they go all in and commit to TV? “I’ve got to look at both options. But the likelihood is that I’ll be broadcasting next year,” Carlesimo. “I’m looking at broadcasting as what I’m going to do moving forward.” There was some backtracking, some well-you-never know in his voice. It’s hard leaving a life’s work. “I have enjoyed television and radio way more than I thought when I first started,” Carlesimo said. “But if I told you it is the same as coaching I would be lying.” New York Daily News

The Brooklyn Nets will not offer a new contract to interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today. A search for a new head coach will commence immediately. "The Brooklyn Nets organization would like to thank P.J. for his efforts with the team in his roles as both head coach and assistant, and for his contributions to the team's success both on and off the court. We wish P.J. and his family only the best in the years to come." NBA.com

Brooklyn Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo's future is uncertain after his team's first-round playoff exit. His players, however, would like to see him return. "I think he did a great job," Nets point guard Deron Williams said after the team's 99-93 loss to the Chicago Bulls in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at Barclays Center. "With everything that went on this season, we had a lot of turmoil and he kind of inherited us. And I think he did a great job of leading us and getting us that fourth seed. I'd love to see him back, but as you know, that's not up to me." ESPN.com

"I'm pretty happy with the way he's coached and the way things worked out," center Brook Lopez said. "I think a lot of players bought into what he was preaching." "P.J.'s been great. He's gotten us to this point," shooting guard Joe Johnson said. "We had a pretty good year, especially when he took over." ESPN.com

Brooklyn Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo said before Game 4 of the first-round matchup with the Chicago Bulls that he hasn't read Friday's comments from a disappointed Gerald Wallace, but that the issue has still been addressed. "I didn't see [Wallace's comments] to be honest with you, but I've talked to Gerald and hopefully we've done a better job of letting Gerald know the things that are important for him to do to help us be successful," Carlesimo said.
