HoopsHype Randy Foye rumors

August 25, 2014 Updates

Foye, entering his ninth NBA season, said he and Afflalo have spoken on the phone a couple of times since Afflalo was acquired in a draft-day trade with the Orlando Magic. Both players are tireless workers who likely will be among the last players on the court after practice on most days. “We’re excited to have him with the group,” Foye said. “Everybody knows it’s about working hard, sacrificing and understanding what it takes to get to where we want to go. Everything’s all good. We just want to win.” NBA.com

The newest Nuggets come via trade (Randy Foye) and free agency (J.J. Hickson). Foye, in particular, was persuaded by Tim Connelly, Nuggets new executive director of basketball operations. "Tim Connelly was one of the first guys that contacted me," Foye said. "I was thinking that (Andre) Iguodala was coming back. Everything played out the way it needed to play out. When Utah didn't call me back I was a little upset, but I got a chance to talk to some of the guys and just realized 'man this is a business.' "The way me and Tim spoke on the phone, it was really cool, just to see him and the way he was working with my agent. Working with us to get me there. There were a lot of things where the deal could have broken down. Tim just stayed in there and made things happen. That was something I appreciated about the whole situation." Boulder Daily Camera

In the trade, the Jazz will receive veterans Biedrins, Jefferson and Rush from Golden State in addition to two future unprotected first-round picks (2014 and 2017) and two future second-round picks (2016 and 2017) from the Warriors, a future second-round pick from the Nuggets (2018), and cash considerations. As part of the deal, the Jazz re-signed free agent guard Randy Foye and traded him to Denver, and sent guard Kevin Murphy to Golden State. Golden State also receives guard Andre Iguodala from Denver (via a sign-and-trade agreement) while sending the Nuggets a future second-round pick (2018). NBA.com

The Denver Nuggets will get something back for Andre Iguodala after all. The Nuggets have agreed to separate sign-and-trade deals that will land them guard Randy Foye from the Utah Jazz and send Iguodala to the Golden State Warriors, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. ESPN.com

The Warriors had planned to sign Iguodala to a four-year, $48 million deal as a free agent last week, sources told ESPN. Instead, the restructured deal will give Golden State more salary cap flexibility, deliver Denver a $9 million trade exception and help Utah build for the future with expiring contracts and draft picks. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press on Monday because teams are not allowed to confirm moves until the new league year begins Wednesday, says the original Warriors-Jazz deal remains intact. The Warriors will clear more than $24 million by sending Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins and Brandon Rush to the Jazz along with the package of draft picks. All three players are in the last year of their contracts. Golden State is only taking back Kevin Murphy and his non-guaranteed $788,000 deal from Utah. ESPN.com

The Warriors will sign-and-trade for Iguodala. This prevents renouncing Jack and Landry and their exceptions. The Nuggets will also get Foye from Utah in a sign-and-trade (for three years, $9 million, per the Deseret News). The Warriors will send another second-round pick (2018) to Utah. Contra Costa Times

Randy Foye: "To tell you the truth I do see myself long-term here. Because everything from an organization, to the values they have here is me. And in the beginning I probably never would have thought it was Utah, probably thought I was a big-city guy. But this is me. I got my family here, my family really likes it here, even when my friends come out they really like it. We're from the East Coast, and all you see is life moving so fast. Everything here is kind of slow and it's just laid back and I see myself here. I love the guys here. I know the guys, we get along really well. I just picture myself being here for a while. I don't really want to talk about contract things, but I just picture I would want to be here for a long time." Salt Lake Tribune

However, being on the other side of it isn't so much fun, and Jazz guard Randy Foye, a former Clipper, said he's seen teams take exception to Los Angeles' flair-filled style of play. "I seen a lot of team taking cheap shots at them," Foye said. "Last night [against Boston] they were beating a team, guys were still in there trying to dunk and get on ESPN and trying to get on the highlight reel." Salt Lake Tribune

Foye agreed with that sentiment, saying, "I feel as though something needs to be done. Too many incidents are happening ... [including] the guy in Colorado, the situation with the guy for the Chiefs [Jovan Belcher], the situation today. Something has to happen. "If there are stricter gun laws, then people won’t do it. If they do it they know the consequences as soon as they’re caught." Salt Lake Tribune

Jazz offseason additions of Mo Williams, Randy Foye and Marvin Williams: We got lucky. We got a ton of a great talent, especially with the veteran guys we've got coming in. We've got a lot of veteran guys, but we've also got a young nucleus. It helps us out in both facets. With those guys coming, we added a lot of ballhandling; we added some shooting; and a lot of leadership. Those guys are going to bring a lot to the table. Salt Lake Tribune
