Admittedly, the playoffs are a long shot for the team and it would probably be the second round before Beaubois would be able to get back into action. As for his long-term future, the free-agent-to-be said he is not thinking about the summer. “Right now, I don’t think about it,” he said. “Even though I cannot play right now, I still really want us to make the playoffs. So I’m going to be around the guys and do everything I can to help them make the playoffs. And when the season is over, then I’ll think about the summer.” Dallas Morning News

Roddy Beaubois had a minor achievement Sunday afternoon. He got his shirt and suit on with only one hand. “It was tough,” he said. “I needed maybe one hour, but I did it.” Beaubois’ left hand is wrapped in a big, protective claw-like bandage after surgery on his hand near his second finger. He had a screw put in and will need four-to-six weeks to recover. But the future remains bright for the oft-injured guard. “It’s tough, but there’s nothing you can do about it,” he said. “When it happens, you just need to make sure you do everything you can to fix it. That’s what we did. I had surgery on it. I just need to take care of it and get back as quick as I can. Besides that, I can’t do a thing about it. Dallas Morning News

Rodrigue Beaubois, a fourth-year guard for the Dallas Mavericks, underwent successful surgery on his left hand Wednesday. Beaubois fractured the left second metacarpal during this past Sunday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. No timetable has been set for Beaubois' return. Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Backup guard Roddy Beaubois could be done for the season after suffering a broken bone in his hand during the first half against the Thunder. The fourth-year player suffered a broken second metacarpal on his left hand. “I don’t know what to say,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “I feel very bad for him. He had been putting the work in and obviously was playing well and this was a game where we needed him. He’s had some bad luck with injuries. “I just hope he can get back, but I don’t know if he’s going to be able to this year or not.” Dallas Morning News

”I feel bad for the kid,” said Dirk Nowitzki. “It’s sad. So many injuries. He’s been here for four years and he’s missed a lot of action. He broke his foot twice, dislocated numerous fingers and finally breaks his hand. It’s tough. We feel bad for him. But he’s a good kid. Dallas Morning News

Have you already got in mind who you want back here next year? Rick Carlisle: I've got an idea, but there's a lot to be determined. For example, Beaubois has been in and out of this year. But he's had some good days in practice recently, in shootaround he was real energetic this morning. I take not of that, and if there's an opportunity to play him in an upcoming game in some meaningful minutes, I'm not going to hesitate. He's showing me that he's ready. There have been other guys who have done that too. Brandan Wright got back into it with that sort or daily approach. Dallas Morning News

Beaubois said he had mixed emotions when he heard his name mentioned in trade talks last month. “Usually at that time, you’re kind of anxious,” he said. “There’s nothing you can do about it.” Beaubois becomes a free agent on July 1 and knows he hasn’t lived up to his reputation in his nearly four years with the Mavs. Whether he will be with the Mavs beyond this season is anybody’s guess. “Right now I just don’t think about it,” Beaubois said. “The season is not finished yet, so I just need to make sure I keep working and get better.” Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Rodrigue Beaubois' health has become a concern for the Dallas Mavericks. From injuries to his foot, ankle and hand, Beaubois has run the gamut on being gimpy and unable to give 100 percent on the court. It has become a regular occurrence for the fourth-year guard, who currently wears a brace on his left ankle. "I've been really concerned about his health, to be completely frank about it," coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's the guy that if he's five percent off in his athleticism and his quickness, it's going to affect his game and it's going to affect guys around him. "Right now we are going to need him to play in some situations. But if he's not playing that much we encourage him to spend more time on rehab strengthening and those kinds of things." I've been advised that you can safely rule out extensions for the Dallas guard duo of Darren Collison and Rodrigue Beaubois, with the Mavericks intent on preserving maximum cap space for the summer of 2013 after 2012's unsuccessful run at Deron Williams. ESPN.com

Beaubois has shown glimpses of stardom several times in a Mavericks uniform, but failed to see sustained success when playing behind veterans Jason Kidd and Jason Terry in the backcourt. Now, however, with the two aging mainstays no longer sporting the Mavs’ blue, Beaubois could finally thrive despite the guard-heavy rotation that the team will showcase this upcoming season. “Roddy is a kid that we all know has a lot of ability,” Carlisle said last week after taking a few questions about Beaubois during the introduction of the Mavs’ off-season signees. He added: “He’s done a lot of good things over a three or four-year period, and this is the year that he’s gonna put it all together. He’s had to battle through injury issues two out of his three years, and it’s been something that’s hindered him. But, you know, he’s another guy that can play the 1 and can play the 2, and often times when you look on the floor with our team you’re gonna see two guards out there that can both handle the ball and can both play off the ball.” NBA.com

So, what do guys do to get tougher? They get in the ring, right? "Roddy B's been working out actually. He's been in the gym; I saw him just the other day. He's taking boxing classes," Cuban said during his 70-minute appearance Tuesday on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's "Ben & Skin Show." "I told Roddy and the folks around him, I said he's got to learn to throw a punch and take a punch. So he's been taking some boxing classes, he's been working out, he's bigger, he's stronger. He's going to have a chance to compete, just like everybody." ESPN.com

Even Cuban, who once deemed Beaubois untouchable in terms of a trade, acknowledged that Beaubois' progression has been slow. "He should be [farther along], but once he got hurt he didn't recover quite the way we had hoped," Cuban said. "But I think that's in the past now and so he'll have every opportunity. We'll find out. We're not going to pre-judge. He's going to get a chance to play and if he outplays O.J., he'll play instead of O.J. If he outplays Darren, he'll play instead of Darren. It's very Darwinian."
