NBA veteran Sasha Pavlovic knows Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts better than most of his teammates, having played with the Mavericks in 2010-11 when Stotts was an assistant coach in Dallas. Pavlovic, 28, is entering his 10th NBA season and will look to catch on in Stotts' rotation to see some time at shooting guard and small forward. The key to his success this season? Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has agreed to a sign-and-trade with guard/forward Courtney Lee, which will send him to the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team trade. The Rockets will receive from Boston a Charlotte Bobcats second-round draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, forward JaJuan Johnson, guard E’Twaun Moore and forward/center Sean Williams. The pick was previously acquired by Boston via Oklahoma City. Houston also acquires the rights to guard Jon Diebler from Portland. Boston completes the deal by agreeing to a sign-and-trade with guard/forward Sasha Pavlovic, which sends him to the Trail Blazers. NBA.com

The deal originally had Phoenix and New Orleans as facilitators, but that came apart late yesterday afternoon Pacific time. Late last night, Portland became the third team and Pavlovic was included. The amended details were still being learned as the Herald’s final print deadline passed, but the Celts will clearly be ecstatic to acquire the coveted 6-foot-5 Lee without disturbing their main rotation. According to the sources, the Celtics will send JaJuan Johnson, E’Twaun Moore, Sean Williams, and a 2013 second-round pick to Houston for Lee, who will be entering his fifth NBA season. Johnson, Moore, and Williams will earn a combined $2.7 million next season, and the Celtics could also sign an additional player, such as Mickael Pietrus or Keyon Dooling, to include in the deal to be able to increase Lee’s salary. Mike Brown: "Being in Cleveland you had the national media cover you and so on and so forth but they were only worried about one guy and then they worried about whether you won or lost. At times they didn’t care when Sasha Pavlovic stubbed his toe. They didn’t say he fell down a flight of steps because he was fighting his girlfriend". Sports Radio Interviews

The problem was two fourth-quarter technical foul calls on the Celtics. That violates a serious no-no under Rivers. Technicals aren’t the issue. Technicals in the fourth quarter are the issue. And the notoriously short-fused Joey Crawford, a veteran official who brooks no dissent, verbal or even visual, whistled Jermaine O’Neal and Sasha Pavlovic for technicals less than two minutes apart in the fourth. “Fourth-quarter technicals on our team are not allowed,’’ Rivers said. “That being said, the game has to be about the players. All right? I mean, c’mon. I thought both teams were complaining just the same, and we got the two techs. The game has to be about the players on the floor. That’s it.” Pavlovic said he had no idea why he got teed up. “I was just playing my game,’’ he said. “I told him [Crawford] I can’t afford to get a technical in the fourth quarter.” ESPN.com

With captain Paul Pierce dubbed doubtful for Sunday's Christmas Day matchup against the Knicks, Sasha Pavlovic becomes the likely Celtics starter. It's a heady challenge for the veteran wingman, who struggled with his confidence after coming to Boston last March. Still, with Pierce hurting and Jeff Green sidelined with a heart ailment, coach Doc Rivers said he's fully prepared to thrust Pavlovic into the top unit. "Most likely," Rivers said Friday when asked whether Pavlovic will start in lieu of Pierce. "We've [run him with the starters] this week so he can get a feel. We could change our mind on that one, but I would say most likely." ESPN.com
