Jackson maintained a healthy distance from the various personnel men he worked with during his two stints with the Lakers, which is why there are no L.A. execs of recent vintage who strike you as an instant nominee. Ex-Lakers official and current Suns scout Ronnie Lester has been mentioned, but Lester and Jackson don't have anything resembling the sort of bond that the Zen Master has with the likes of Kurt Rambis, Scottie Pippen, Ron Harper and the still-active Derek Fisher. The reality, though, is that those four Phil disciples don't possess the sort of experience and/or proven front-office versatility that Jackson could surely use to lean on. ESPN.com

As arguably the greatest coach in basketball history, Phil Jackson won 11 championships with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. If anybody would know the differences between those all-time greats, it’s him. In a panel at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, Jackson shed some light on their work ethics. “Shaq didn’t work at it,” Jackson said. “Michael was able to succeed despite all kinds of limitations in his game. He couldn’t hit an outside shot. He couldn’t defend. But all of that went away because of his work ethic. Kobe saw that as a pinnacle that he had to reach, and he took it to a whole new level.” For The Win

Scottie Pippen has filed a countersuit against a man who alleges in his own complaint that the former Chicago Bulls forward attacked him outside upscale Nobu restaurant last year. Pippen’s countersuit was filed last Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Camran Shafighi. It alleges assault, battery, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil rights violations. He is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. The countersuit alleges that Shafighi called Pippen the “N” word in front of his wife, Larsa, and their children, and that he also spat on the former NBA player and his offspring. CBS Los Angeles

The countersuit alleges that an “extremely aggressive and intoxicated” Shafighi ignored Pippen, going so far as to push Larsa Pippen out of the way. Shafighi became angry as both sides walked outside of the restaurant, according to the countersuit. “You stupid (“N” word), you stupid black man,” Shafighi yelled, according to Pippen’s suit. “You’re (expletive) stupid. I used to love you, now I hate you.” When Pippen’s brother-in-law tried to intervene and calm Shafighi down, the plaintiff continued uttering the “N” word and said, “I’m going to kill you,” according to the countersuit. Shafighi pushed Pippen’s brother-in-law, but the plaintiff’s momentum caused him to “stumble, trip and fall,” the countersuit states. CBS Los Angeles

Following in the footsteps of his 1992 Dream Team teammate, who listed his own massive manse in San Antonio earlier this month, Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen is taking another shot at selling his waterfront mansion-estate in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Pippen eyed a $16 million payday when he began shopping the trophy home in December 2010. However, the athlete’s mansion has seen some big price cuts over the past two years — $2.5 million in 2011 and $1.7 million in 2013. After a six-month hiatus off the market, it has returned with an ask of $11.8 million. Realtor

Q: Brandon (Foster City, CA) - I liked the feature on you in Grantland. Just wanted to know how you feel being compared to Scottie Pippen and how much his game influenced you growing up. Thanks… Andre Iguodala: I’ve been a Scottie Pippen fan since growing up being from Illinois. I was also the tallest player on the court playing point guard until my senior year of high school, so I’ve had the comparison made a lot. Mind of AI9
