In a surprise move, the Thunder has waived point guard Sebastian Telfair. The team announced the news Wednesday night, hours after its home win over Utah. Telfair came into the season projected to be the Thunder’s third string point guard but ended up playing a prominent role for a team that has been decimated by injuries in the season’s first month. Telfair, who was attempting to resurrect his NBA career after competing in China last season, posted a farewell message to his Instagram account after the Thunder announced the move. “It’s been a honor and thanks to all the okc fans that showed me love while I was here,” Telfair wrote. “Good luck to all my teammates as they work for a ring! All love #BA #headup” Oklahoman

But ever since, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Telfair. The undersized point guard struggled with the physical adjustment, quickly falling out of the rotation in Portland. Then, over the next nine seasons, Telfair switched teams eight times, unable to find a stable role and never playing for a contender. He is still yet to appear in a playoff game. “I’m definitely unsatisfied,” Telfair said of his career. “I’m a hooper, I’m a player, I like to play a lot. I just didn’t get as many opportunities as I would have liked.” Oklahoman
