Shawn Marion has been plagued with a troublesome left hip flexor for months and the Cavaliers are hoping that an MRI on Monday will reveal the severity. The small forward arrived in Cleveland this afternoon for the MRI while the team headed to Detroit for Tuesday's game against the Pistons. Due to his ailment, Marion has not played in the last two games and he also missed two games during the January West Coast trip because of the injury. Cleveland Plain Dealer

As the Cavs prepare to face the New York Knicks this afternoon at Madison Square Garden (1 p.m., Fox Sports Ohio), they may have to do it yet again without Marion, who has fallen from starter to completely out of David Blatt’s rotation in recent weeks. Part of it is because of the hip. “My hip is bothering me right now. I’ve been trying to fight through it as much as I can, but it’s causing me a lot of discomfort,” he said. “ I just want to get back to 100 percent healthy.” Akron Beacon Journal

When Shawn Marion headed to the Cleveland bench late in last week's game at US Airways Center, "The Matrix" was saying goodbye to Phoenix. Marion said he plans to retire after this season with Cleveland, ending a 15-year NBA career that was mostly spent as a star with the Suns. Arizona Republic

When the Suns drafted Marion in 1999, Marion set a goal to play 15 seasons. The 36-year-old believes he could play another three seasons but being away from his first child, 8-month-old Shawn, has convinced him to retire after this season with the Cavaliers. "I wanted to go out on my terms," Marion said. "The biggest thing is having a son. I got attached to him. Seeing him periodically is hard. Watching him grow up on pictures and videos is hard." Smith ended up being fined $50,000 for the shoelace stunt, but Marion, now teammates with Smith following the Cleveland Cavaliers' three-team trade with the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, said Smith's hijinks never bothered him. "That was irrelevant," Marion said Wednesday. "You all blew it out of proportion. He was joking on the floor and that's all it was. You all tried to make something out of nothing and it's kind of messed up. He got labeled. You all made it into a big negative and it was just a horseplay thing. That's kind of messed up." ESPN.com
