On if there is still chance Shawn Marion could re-sign with Dallas: Nelson: “Well ‘Trix is just like we’ve talked about with JET and Dirk — we don’t sip from the cup without Shawn Marion so absolutely you never close the door. Now, his value in the marketplace is much higher than what we have right now, and so I would categorize that as a long long long long long shot. But kind of like Vince, there’s opportunities and the really good agents are going to get their guy their values. And Shawn Marion’s got one of the best in the business, if not thee best, so I expect he’s going to get a lot more money out there than the Mavericks can afford to offer right now.” Dallas Morning News

With Anthony out of the picture, the Bulls can now address wing depth and possibly sign Nikola Mirotic with other resources. Of the remaining free agents at wing that are most intriguing, the Bulls have talked to Trevor Ariza and Shawn Marion. But Ariza is advancing on a deal in Houston. Chicago Tribune

Marion, 36, appears to have some fuel left in the tank after averaging 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 76 starts for the Mavericks last season. "I want to play a couple more years," he said, adding that his preference is to re-sign with Dallas, but he's open to other locales. "My ultimate goal is to win another championship, so it's wherever I feel is the best chance to win another championship." Arizona's Sports Page

Entering free agency for the first time since 2009, Marion joined Burns and Gambo Wednesday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and said he doesn't necessarily plan on retiring as a Maverick. "That's not what I said, I didn't say that," Marion stated. "I said that I didn't know where I was going to retire (in the league), because I can't dictate what's going to happen this summer, I can't control anything. "If it happens, it happens, but what I said was I was going to retire (after the playing days are over) in the Dallas community." Arizona's Sports Page

Regardless of where he lands, the Valley will always be special in Marion's heart. "I definitely love Phoenix, I have a place there and I've got a lot of friends there still," he said. "I watched the city grow. I was a part of the city when it was growing and maturing. It was a great run." Arizona's Sports Page

Still, Marion says money will not be his motivating factor as he listens to potential suitors, pursuing a second title to further cement his legacy. “I’ve actually never really experienced free agency,” a modest Marion said. “You know, after your 15th year in the league it’s a weird feeling. But, you know, I’m not even thinking about that. When July 1 comes I’ll just look at my options and see which one is best suited for me to add to my legacy. “You know, it’s not about money right now. I’ve made a lot of money in my career and I’ve been truly blessed. You know, I take none of this for granted, and I think I’ve just got to weigh my options. I think when it’s all said and done, of course, I think we’re close here and not too far. But I think we’ve got a lot of guys here that are free agents again, so it’s going to be interesting. We’re going to see what’s out there and what’s available, and I’ve just got to weigh it out. I’m going to put it in God’s hands.” mavs.com
