Forward Shawn Marion believes it’s foolish for a team to bring its offense to a crawl in the playoffs when running the ball during the regular season is what put them in the playoffs. “A lot of stuff doesn’t change, but for the most part if you’re able to run you’ve got to explore that option,” Marion said. “Think about all the teams that won it lately in the last three or four years, most of the stuff they were doing in the regular season they continued to do the same thing in the playoffs. “It’s just that some series are going to be more of a drag-out, bang-out than others. But, if your biggest strength is pushing the tempo of the game, you’re going to continue to push the tempo of the game. You’re not going to slow down just because it’s the postseason.” Fort Worth Star-Telegram

On a lighter note, Dallas had a timeout video with a commercial spoof for a "Matrix Training System." It was a contraption that went over a person's head and upper body to put the shooting arm in the awkward release position that Shawn Marion uses. It even came with a shooting glove designed with how Marion's left pinky finger is dislocated out. Marion was sensitive about his unique shot throughout his career so it was good to see Marion participate in the bit. Arizona Republic

Speaking of the product, Marion has another recommendation for Silver. “I think the age requirement for coming into the league should be higher,” he said. Since the 2006 draft, the minimum requirements have been that players must have turned 19 during the calendar year of the draft and have been out of high school for one year. Silver’s predecessor, David Stern, has long been a proponent of adding a year to those requirements. “It should be at least two years (out of high school),” Marion said. “Two to three years, minimum.” Dallas Morning News

One legal argument, according to a source, would be that Smith didn’t untie the shoelaces of Detroit’s Greg Monroe, and it was unclear if he touched them as Monroe stepped away. Smith’s intent on the second violation would one of interpretation. The argument would be Smith only should be fined only for the first violation in Dallas with Shawn Marion. New York Post
