San Antonio general manager R.C. Buford was at the Petersen Events Center in March for Pitt’s home finale against Villanova. Adams did not play in the game because he sprained an ankle in practice the day before. NBA scouts visit Pitt home games often, but a general manager is more noteworthy. The Spurs also employ Sean Marks in their front office. Marks, a 6-foot-10 journeyman who played in the NBA from 1998 until 2011, is one of only two native New Zealanders to play in the NBA. He is Buford’s director of basketball operations and the general manager of the team’s developmental league franchise. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |

There is good news and bad news for Steven Adams, a 7-foot freshman center who decided to leave Pitt after one season to declare for the NBA draft. The good: He is taking advantage of a weak draft class and NBA teams are always searching for 7-foot centers, especially ones with the athletic skills Adams possesses. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The bad: It might be a while before Adams is playing meaningful minutes in the league. "It's a shame, really," said one longtime NBA scout who did not want to be identified because it is against NBA policy to comment on players before the league releases an official list of underclassmen eligible for the draft. "There is a lot more development that needs to be done there. Whether he was at Pitt or in the NBA, he is a ways away from helping an NBA team. But there are a lot of guys in the NBA who fit that description." Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |

Steven Adams is leaving Pittsburgh after just one season. The 7-footer from New Zealand struggled for much of the season, but has decided to declare for the NBA Draft, sources told CBSSports.com. CBSSports.com Multiple NBA executives told CBSSports.com that Adams is projected as a first-round pick. According to sources, one of the primary reasons for Adams deciding to leave college after just one year is to help provide for his family. He has 18 siblings and his father passed away when Steven Adams was 14 years old. CBSSports.com (Steven) Adams told reporters after Pittsburgh's loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament that he had no intention of declaring for the draft. That jibes with what we've been hearing, which is that he'll spend at least one more year under Jamie Dixon's tutelage at Pitt. ESPN.com |
