The Swedish basketball federation slapped a one-year ban on suspended NBA star Jeffery Taylor on Wednesday with the Charlotte Hornets forward at the centre of a probe into a domestic assault charge. Taylor was arrested and charged in September in East Lansing, Michigan, just the latest incident to tarnish the reputation of US sports. The 25-year-old was arraigned and has been formally charged with one count of domestic assault, one count of assault and one count of malicious destruction of property, a police statement said. While Taylor will almost certainly enjoy his time at home with his mom, the rest of his family and friends, it’s still going to be a business trip. He’ll be joining the Swedish National Team for Training Camp less than a week later as they prepare for Eurobasket 2013, which will be played from September 4-22 in Slovenia. It won’t be the first time Taylor’s had the chance to represent his country. He played with the under-15, under-16, under-18 and under-20 Swedish national teams. Having spent most of his basketball career associated with his national team, taking the court at Eurobasket 2013 will be a special moment for Taylor. “It’s just like the American guys. They love representing their country. … It’s the same for me,” said Taylor. “I grew up over there. I was immersed in the Swedish culture – it’s my home. I’m definitely blessed to have the opportunity to play for the country.” NBA.com

"It's great that everything has been resolved." FIBA.com

Sweden won't know until the day of their clash with Bulgaria on Thursday if Detroit Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko can shake off an ankle injury and play in the crunch game. Jerebko got hurt in the second half of Monday night's home win against Luxembourg when he stepped on an opponent's ankle. The Swedish Federation has announced: "It's gratifying that there is no serious injury, but it is too early to say if Jonas can play against Bulgaria in the EuroBasket qualifier on 30 August. "We will take the decision on the day of the game," said team manager Jonte Karlsson. FIBA Europe

But when the Swedes participate in the Eurobasket 2013 Qualifiers, from mid-August through mid-September, Jerebko won't be wearing one. “I'm very disappointed,” he said. “Of course, I want to represent my country and play. But I'm looking forward to next summer and joining them again, and I wish them all the luck this summer. I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on it. “I know my teammates, on that team, will understand my decision after coming off an injury like that, so I'm not really worried about it. I'm just looking forward to playing with them next summer and I wish them all the luck.” Booth Newspapers
