HoopsHype Tayshaun Prince rumors

“Obviously I want to be in a winning situation,” Prince said. “Everybody wants to be in a winning situation, make no mistake about it, especially toward the end of your career. But at the end of the day, it’s about doing what’s right and going out there and having fun. If you get to the point where I am in my career after all these years, you just want to go out there and have a chance to win and do the right things.” NBCSports.com

Regardless of the uncertainty of his future, Prince has made the best of a rather unenviable situation. Last year, Prince’s teammate at the University of Kentucky, Keith Bogans, did not want to play leader and mentor and was sent home until his contract was traded. “You come to a position like this and you’ve got Marcus Smart and Phil [Pressey] and these guys calling me ‘old head,’ which I really don’t like, so I am going to have to talk to them about that,” he said. When asked why he is such a willing mentor in a situation where he could understandably be more consumed with playing for a contender, Prince said: “If you love the game and you respect the game, no matter what position you’re in, you’re supposed to be professional and go out and play the game. Once I got traded here, my main concern that all options were on the table and see what situation would be best. Boston Globe

There was strong word that if Prince wasn’t moved by the deadline that the Celtics would seek agreement with him on a buyout of this final year of his contract (he makes a bit more than $7.2 million). But coach Brad Stevens has taken a strong liking to Prince, who had four points in 17 minutes in last night’s 100-99 win against the Nuggets. It’s fair to assume he may lobby to keep him on the squad the rest of the season if he is not traded. Considering their rebuilding situation and the desire for a high draft pick, the Celts certainly don’t mind a few extra losses if they serve to enhance their position in next June’s dispersal. According to league sources, the Celts would still like to move Prince for a draft pick before the Feb. 19 NBA trade deadline. But it’s what could happen if he’s not dealt that may be up for more discussion in the coming days. Boston Herald

While Prince's future in Boston very much remains unclear (the Celtics could trade him or work out a buyout of this, the final year of his contract), Stevens said he would love to have Prince stay with the Celtics for the remainder of this season. "He (Prince) impacts winning," Stevens said. "He impacts you in the right way." CSNNE.com

“All options are on the table right now,” Prince said Sunday at Santa Monica High School. “Whether it’s me be here for the rest of the year or it’s a buyout or whatever the case may be, all options are on the table right now. We’ve had some discussions today (about Prince’s future). They were saying in reports that there were some discussions going on throughout the course of this week, but there really (weren’t) because they haven’t seen me until today. Booth Newspapers

“It’s not hard because of everything I’ve been through in this league,” he said. “It’s not hard at all. If I didn’t go through the ups and downs throughout my career in this league, it would be hard. But all the things that I’ve been through in this league, it kind of helps the situation out because you know what to expect in certain situations.” Booth Newspapers
