The Brazilians led by as many as eight early in the fourth, but couldn’t put France away, because they couldn’t put together more than two straight scores. “The zone was back all the time,” said Tiago Splitter, who scored just six points on 2-for-5 shooting. “Nobody was getting easy shots. But with 3:08 remaining, Blair let his emotions get the best of him. The 6-7, 270-pound power forward collided with Spurs center Tiago Splitter, was called for a foul and reacted by kicking Splitter in the head. Blair was ejected and forced to watch the rest of the game with a few other staff members in the Mavs locker room. "It was just an accident," Blair said. "I reacted to the call and his face happened to be down there. It was nothing intentional, especially the way I had been playing. "I'm not that dumb to do something like that in the heat of the game when I know I changed it. It was totally an accident." Dallas Morning News

Splitter, however, said he thought the kick was intentional after reviewing the incident after the game. “After watching the video, it looks like it was intentional,” he said. “He has nothing against me. He’s a good kid. I know him. I don’t know why he did it.” San Antonio Express-News

Though they won’t play a minute, injured Spurs starters Tiago Splitter, Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard are with the team on the three-game road trip that is to begin Friday night against the Hawks in Atlanta because coach Gregg Popovich wants to use the trip — and the upcoming rodeo road trip — to build team chemistry. “It’s both to get therapy — I want Will (head athletic trainer Will Sevening) to be there for their therapy and other stuff — and sure, they could have done that back in San Antonio with physical theapists — but it’s also good for the chemistry for them to be with us on these road trips.” Popovich also has used the rodeo trip to build what he calls a “bunker mentality” among his players, coaches and staff so the injured players will make that long sojourn, as well.
