HoopsHype Tony Wroten rumors

December 9, 2014 Updates

It appears that Tony Wroten will be sidelined longer than expected. The 76ers guard was looking forward to returning from a right knee sprain Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks. However, Wroten was listed as doubtful Tuesday for the matchup at the Phillips Arena. This comes one day after the 6-foot-6, 205-pounder said he felt close to 100 percent. "We don't want to push it," coach Brett Brown said. "So I expect him to not be available against Atlanta." Philadelphia Inquirer

The Sixers are, once, again without reserve point guards Tony Wroten [sprained right knee] and Alexey Shved [left hip flexor strain] in Saturday's game against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Coach Brett Brown said there’s a chance Wroten could play in Wednesday’s game at the Atlanta Hawks. “Just from listening to our medical people, it’s seems that Tony is closer than Alexey,” Brown said. Even the lowly Sixers? Former Kentucky player Eric Bledsoe, now starring for the Phoenix Suns, said on Sirius XM Radio that if there were a seven-game series between the two teams, “I would definitely take Kentucky. I think Philly would maybe probably get one game." But the Sixers’ Tony Wroten, who has been in the NBA since 2012, with Memphis and Philadelphia, told Philly reporters that there would be a different outcome. “They can’t beat us,’’ Wroten said, and then referring to Bledsoe, “He’s crazy.’’ NBC New York

“J.Crossover”, A Jamal Crawford documentary: The Crossover King Is a True Role Model. We had the pleasure of spending our summer in Seattle with the LA Clippers’ Jamal Crawford as he hosted his annual Seattle Pro-Am league. For two months, we captured highlights and conducted interviews with Pro-Am players like Isaiah Thomas & Tony Wroten as well as Seattle basketball legends like Gary Payton and Brandon Roy who talked to us about Jamal and how committed he is to giving back to his community. We also talked to Jamal about his basketball journey that started at home with a yellow Dr J basketball to playing pick-up games with the original Lob City crew of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp while Crawford was still in high school to the University of Michigan and then to the NBA where he has been breaking records and throwing lobs to Blake Griffin as part of the modern day Lob City. Then I would like to say thanks to his beautiful wife, Tori, for sharing him with all of his fans and letting him play a game of basketball for the great city of Seattle at the pro-am on this weekend! Most guys would be lucky to play a game of basketball a week after getting married but Jamal’s wife let him and his friends – Chris Paul, Nate Robinson, LaMarcus Aldridge, Matt Barnes, Tony Wroten, Isaiah Thomas, Dejounte Murray, Wale, Will Conroy – have a pick-up game…at midnight…in front of a few thousand people! That’s love. From wife to husband, husband to fans, fans to the city. It was all love in Seattle last night. Just in case you were wondering who won. The agent for 76ers guard Tony Wroten and a spokesman for Michael Jordan denied to ESPN on Friday that Wroten had received an apology from Jordan after one of his Nike brand Air Jordan sneakers fell apart during a loss to the Pacers on March 14 in Philadelphia, contrary to what Wroten told reporters Wednesday. In a tweet on Friday afternoon, Wroten admitted to speaking about Michael Jordan but insisted he was joking: "MJ NEVER called and apologized. I was joking around with a local reporter saying "yea he should call me agent" not knowing I would be quoted," he tweeted. Delaware News Journal

Tony Wroten said he received an apology from Michael Jordan after one of the 76ers guard's Nike basketball shoes fell apart during a loss against the Indiana Pacers on Friday in Philadelphia. "It was more embarrassing than anything," Wroten said Wednesday. "But things happen. I got an apology from Jordan. Yeah. … He called my agent." Wroten, who is known around the NBA for his vast shoe collection, made highlight reels for the wrong reason when the sole tore off the Air Jordan 10 "varsity red" sneaker on his right foot during a fourth-quarter drive to the basket.
