HoopsHype Toure Murry rumors

March 14, 2014 Updates

The first thing that jumps out about Murry's game is his defense. He uses his long reach and quick feet to crowd defenders, challenge shots and step into passing lanes. The rookie is averaging 1.8 steals per 36 minutes and defends the pick-and-roll better than any guard on the team not named Iman Shumpert. He is also an above-average rebounder for a guard, grabbing 4.7 rebounds per 36 minutes. It is Murry’s offensive limitations that have kept him out of the rotation. He has a solid handle, is quick off the bounce and attacks the basket, something the Knicks’ offense has lacked all season. His 3.5 free-throw attempts per 36 minutes ranks first among Knicks guards. New York - Cole Aldrich and Toure Murry: Murry has shown flashes in limited minutes, particularly defensively, and merits a longer stay. Aldrich meanwhile has had scant little opportunity on the court, but at least theoretically provides the interior defense and rebounding the Knicks sorely lack outside of Tyson Chandler, which works in his favor. Tyler was cut in training camp because he was still rehabbing and owner James Dolan wanted to keep J.R. Smith’s brother, Chris Smith, as the 15th man in a highly controversial move that triggered the NBA to hold internal talks about the issue. The question will be whether the Knicks will cut Smith, who is also playing for Erie, guard Tour’e Murry, who is on the roster but almost never plays, or center Cole Aldrich, who has seen almost zero action despite Tyson Chandler’s injury. Woodson tipped his hand tonight, giving strong indication combo guard Tour'e Murry is close to nailing down roster spot. The big guard shot 5 of 7 for 14 points in his second straight bonanza game. With small forward C.J. Leslie getting a DNP, it's clear the undrafted North Carolina State forward is headed toward the chopping block. That's the opening Murry likely will get. Murry played excellently in the summer league in Las Vegas and hasn't disappointed. Woodson said afterward he believes Murry can make it as "a good pro.'' Sulia
