Former Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin has reached an agreement to become the lead assistant for Sacramento Kings coach Michael Malone, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the hire had not yet been announced. USA Today Sports

Corbin — who spent the last four seasons as Jazz coach, the previous seven as an assistant under legendary Utah coach Jerry Sloan and 16 seasons as an NBA player — will join a Kings team that went 28-54 in Malone's first season. Malone's Sacramento tenure began with his father, longtime NBA coach Brendan Malone, as his lead assistant, but he left unexpectedly before the regular season even began. Assistant coach Chris Jent had assumed the duties last season and remains on staff. USA Today Sports

Boylen, a close friend of Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey, is no longer in the running to replace Tyrone Corbin as Utah's bench boss, according to multiple sources. Deseret News

Don’t expect a Utah Jazz coaching decision — or even interviews — to happen anytime soon. For one thing, Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey and assistant GM Justin Zanik are on a scouting trip in Europe through the end of next week. For another, Jazz president Randy Rigby reiterated that the organization is just beginning the process of establishing requirements for Tyrone Corbin’s replacement. “It will be an exhaustive search. We'll be expeditious, though,” Rigby said Wednesday during an interview on The Zone Sports Network. “But we'll be sensitive to taking the necessary time, so that we get it right and it will be the right selection for the Utah Jazz.” Deseret News

The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has elected not to offer head coach Tyrone Corbin a new contract. As a result, a search for a new head coach will begin immediately. “I would like to thank Ty and his staff for all of their hard work, dedication and professionalism over the last three-plus seasons,” said Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey. “This has not been an easy decision, but after a thorough review process, we as an organization feel that this is the best decision for our franchise moving forward.” NBA.com

From his Twitter account, Lawrence wrote that a Jazz executive confirmed that the organization is “ready to pull the plug on Tyrone Corbin and go for a new coach.” He didn’t name any potential replacements. The Jazz and Corbin’s camp vehemently denied the validity of Lawrence’s report. “Not accurate. No discussion,” Jazz President Randy Rigby wrote in a text to the Deseret News while in New York for the NBA Board of Governors’ meeting. Deseret News
