The Magic acquired Green so he could contribute off the bench and serve as a role model and mentor to the team’s youngsters. Green was a positive influence in the Magic locker room, especially for Maurice Harkless, Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton. "I talk to Willie every day," Harkless said in March. "Willie's definitely somebody that I talk to whenever I get frustrated. He's the one to talk to. It's always Willie." Orlando Sentinel

Oladipo draws the most curiosity among league insiders. People feel more certain that they understand what Payton is and will be: a crafty point guard who can’t shoot. Players improve, of course, and the Magic have a killer shooting coach in Dave Love, who will help Payton. The precedent of Jason Kidd exists. But most guys who enter the league as poor shooters usually top out at tolerable, and Payton will likely always be a pass-first dynamo with an unreliable jumper. Grantland

When he showcased his athleticism and creativity in the slam dunk contest last month at NBA All-Star Weekend, Victor Oladipo was doing much more than entertaining fans. He was on a mission to save lives. Oladipo decided before the dunk competition took place that he would donate a portion of his prize money to fight cancer. And since finishing runner-up in the contest, the second-year Orlando Magic guard has done just that. On Thursday, Oladipo donated $15,000 to the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute to combat breast cancer. Prior to this contribution, he had presented checks to Indiana University’s Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center and the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. NBA.com

In Indiana for the Magic’s game against the Pacers on Tuesday, Oladipo took the first step in delivering on his promise by donating $15,000 to the IU Cancer Center on Monday. Oladipo is hopeful that all of his donations will allow him to make a difference in the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people who have received cancer diagnosis. NBA.com

Orlando’s Victor Oladipo’s first dunk at the NBA Dunk Contest was incredible, but he virtually ensured himself a 50 with the style points he earned after coming to the court wearing a fake tux and singing “New York, New York.” Oladipo then threw down a 540 dunk that no one has ever seen before. At some point the Magic will need to re-establish Victor Oladipo's role. A current NBA coach, a former NBA coach and a current league scout tell me what he's not: Oladipo's not a point guard. It's not a surprising opinion. And it's not news to the Magic, who drafted a point guard in June after experimenting with Victor at the position last season. Orlando Sentinel
