Orlando will begin a national coaching search and, according to sources, plans to cast a wide net. Scott Skiles, the former Magic guard, is a leading candidate. Mark Jackson, Mike Malone and Vinny Del Negro figure to eventually be on the interview list. If the Magic go with a stop-gap the rest of the season -- assistant coach James Borrego is the interim coach -- several league sources believe Orlando could make a run at Chicago’s Tom Thibodeau, should the relationship between Thibodeau and the Bulls become too toxic to continue. As brilliant an analyst as Jeff Van Gundy is, there's little question he has a pro-coach agenda. While criticism towards players and executives is common in his commentary during TV and radio broadcasts, you rarely ever hear him say anything negative about coaching staffs. This pattern has been clear when discussing the Bulls' management dealings with the team's last two head coaches - Vinny Del Negro and Tom Thibodeau. HoopsHype

It's possible the Cavs will hire a rookie head coach, but I wouldn't bet on it. The mandate for new General Manager David Griffin is to make a serious playoff run. A safe guess is that he'll pick between Alvin Gentry, Lionel Hollins and Vinny Del Negro -- three established coaches. There will be another round of interviews for the three veterans and some others in the next week or so, these with owner Dan Gilbert. The Cavs want to have a coach in place for the June 26th draft. Former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro interviewed with the Cavaliers over the weekend for the team's vacant head coaching position, two NBA sources told The Plain Dealer. Del Negro had been rumored to be a candidate for the job all along, in part because he and Cavs general manager David Griffin worked together in Phoenix, where Del Negro served as a broadcaster, director of player personnel and assistant general manager. Cleveland Plain Dealer

It's unclear if these five candidates make up the pool from which the Cavs will select their next head coach. None of the five are believed to have met with owner Dan Gilbert yet, so a second round of interviews could take place before a decision. It's also unclear if the team plans to have a coach in place by the 2014 NBA Draft on June 26. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Yes, I can confirm national reports that the Wolves have interviewed former Chicago and L.A. Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro for their coaching opening. I'm told he interviewed a week ago Wednesday with Flip Saunders in Cleveland. That was the day before Joerger interviewed and then came to Minnesota to meet Glen Taylor on Saturday.
