Rookie small forward Wesley Witherspoon remains on the Spurs’ camp roster for now but is expected to be waived and ticketed for the Development League, most likely the Austin Toros, before the start of the season. It is the same fate probably awaiting another rookie forward, Alabama’s JaMychal Green, who the Spurs signed recently in hopes of bolstering their D-League affiliate. San Antonio Express-News |

Rookie small forward Wesley Witherspoon remains on the Spurs’ training camp roster, despite the fact that he did not travel with the team on its most recent road trip. Another rookie forward, Alabama’s JaMychal Green, has signed with the Spurs but is not practicing with the team. San Antonio Express-News If the Spurs keep Witherspoon and Green on their camp roster until Saturday, those two players can eschew the crapshoot of the D-League draft and proceed directly to the Austin Toros. Provided they agree to a standard D-League contract, of course. Neither Witherspoon nor Green would count against the Spurs’ 15-man NBA roster in that instance. San Antonio Express-News |

With training camp set to begin next week, the Spurs have added a couple more more warm bodies to the mix: 6-9 rookie forward Wesley Witherspoon and 6-0 veteran guard Tre Kelley. Not to go all negative, but with the 15-man roster almost set for this season, they both have about as much chance of making the team as I do. That said, they might catch the team’s eye and earn an apprenticeship in Austin. Indeed, that’s where Kelley played in 2010-11, averaging 9.4 points and 3.4 assists in 11 games. So I happened to ask Wesley Witherspoon and Will Barton if Friday's game could be either's last game at Memphis. I was stunned by the response. Witherspoon said he's definitely coming back. "I signed to play four years at Memphis and that's what I'm going to do," he said. "It hasn't even crossed my mind to be leaving. I have no idea where people get that." Memphis Commercial Appeal As for Will Barton? Honestly, I was thinking about doing a piece on Will and his brother, Antonio. Just their take on the whole year. In the course of that, I asked Will if he had planned to be a one-and-done at Memphis. "I still could be," he said. "The year isn't over yet. I'm not going to lie, I'm not throwing it out of the woods yet." Memphis Commercial Appeal |
