Billy Lange Rumors
Villanova assistant Billy Lange has agreed to terms to join the 76ers coaching staff, according to a league source. Lange joins Chad Iske (formerly of the Denver Nuggets), Lloyd Pierce (Memphis Grizzlies), and Greg Foster (University of Texas at El Paso) on new coach Brett Brown’s staff. Lange, a Haddon Heights native and Bishop Eustace product, has served as the Wildcats’ associate head coach the last two seasons. Before his second assistant-coaching stint at Villanova, the 41-year-old was Navy’s head coach for seven seasons.
This comes after a report on Friday stated that former Sixers assistant John Kuester is the leading candidate to become Brown’s top assistant (see story). Kuester previously served as an assistant with the Sixers under Larry Brown. Lange, 41, is born and bred in this area. The New Jersey native played high school basketball at Bishop Eustace in Pennsauken Township, NJ and then went on to play at Rowan University.
The Sixers’ new coaching staff is rounding out. According to a source, Villanova associate head coach Billy Lange had agreed in principle to become a member of Brett Brown’s coaching staff. Lange joins Lloyd Pierce and Chad Iske on Brown’s staff.
The Houston Rockets are in discussions with Villanova assistant Billy Lange to become the head coach of their NBA Development League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Lange, 41, has been weighing an offer and discussing deal parameters for several days, sources said Friday.
