Mike Woodson Rumors
Vogel’s job has been said to be in jeopardy in past years. He would seem a perfect fit if front-runner Kurt Rambis agrees to slide over as the offensive coordinator of the triangle. According to sources, Knicks owner James Dolan felt Vogel outcoached Mike Woodson during the Knicks’ seminal six-game playoff defeat to the Pacers in 2013. The Knicks carried a 54-28 record into the second-round series before being upset – the pivotal moment coming when Carmelo Anthony was blocked at the rim by Roy Hibbert late in the fourth quarter of Game 6.
According to a person with knowledge of the Kings’ situation, they have already spoken to at least four candidates about their head coaching vacancy and still hope to connect with several more candidates before they’re done. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the process. The Kings, who fired George Karl on April 14 after they finished 33-49 and missed the playoffs for the 10th consecutive time, are known to have interviewed Vinny Del Negro (former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers coach), Mike Woodson (former Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks coach; now an assistant with the Clippers), Sam Mitchell (former Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves coach) and Kevin McHale (former Timberwolves and Houston Rockets coach).
Clippers assistant Mike Woodson is slated to come to Sacramento soon and former Kings and current Memphis Grizzlies assistant Elston Turner has been added to the ever growing list of candidates. The search has already yielded 15 names or more and could grow before this is all over.
