Vincent Collet Rumors
In an interview published in the French basketball federation website, Collet explained his decision: “About Evan Fournier, if we made a step back, I said that we should worry about the present. I believe that our seven backcourt players have well fulfilled their different roles. Regarding the balance in that sector, I found that it was great. On the contrary, we had difficulties in the paint which could have created more issues further in the Olympic tournament. When people see things from the outside they can ask questions. Even myself, before leaving for Manilla, I believed that I integrate Fournier after the tournament. I say that clearly, because I thought that at least one backcourt player will not be quite convincing on his role, but that was not the case. After that, because of the balance achieved, I did not want to change anything.
Vincent Collet’s Facebook account was hacked on Tuesday. On the page of the The French National Team head coach appeared a long statement in which it is written “The Spaniards are doped like pigs”. A friend of the coach in the comments confirmed that the account was hacked.
France have revealed their final 12-man roster for Eurobasket 2015 with Mouhammadou Jaiteh and Thomas Heurtel the last two to be cut. The European champions will be based in Montpellier and face Russia, Poland, Finland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Israel in Group A with the co-hosts looking to advance to the second and final rounds, which will be held in Lille. No doubt, the squad that coach Vincent Collet has selected is a strong one, plenty of international and NBA experience, including the 2013 Eurobasket MVP Tony Parker along with Nicholas Batum, Boris Diaw and the promising Rudy Gobert.
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker will not take part in this year’s World Cup with France as he needs to rest, the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) said on Friday. Parker, a three-time NBA champion, led France to their first continental title last year and was named 2013 European Player of the year. “Tony Parker is not in the squad. (Coach) Vincent Collet and I want him to take some rest after many demanding campaigns with France and demanding seasons with his club,” the national technical director Patrick Beesley said in a statement.
Tony Parker and Nicholas Batum both headline the 12-man roster that France will have when they arrive in Ljubljana next month for Eurobasket. Head coach Vincent Collet has surprised many however by leaving out Leo Westermann, Evan Fournier and Kim Tille, a decision that was made by Collet on Saturday night, before the team’s first defeat of the pre-Eurobasket warm-ups to Greece. Many expected Fournier to make his senior debut this summer in Slovenia after impressing at under-20 level. He was also a major standout at last year’s Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy – where they showcase young European prospects under the watchful eye of NBA scouts. “Evan [Fournier] had little time to show us what he could do, and although in the last few games he improved and started to play more freely, it was still not enough to make us change our mind about what we had seen before,” Collet explained.
