Torts sounds like a changed man. Or just a man who was beaten down and humbled by a seven-goal third period. Who knows.
And, considering the Nets are 22-9 since switching to this style of play, how could anyone argue otherwise?
Tonight was a unique circumstance because of no Kirilenko and size of Toronto's frontline. Nets will continue to play small, quick lineups.
For fans getting worked up about two big lineups Nets used today, don't expect to see them much. Kidd said postgame they won't continue.
Paul Pierce, on the subject of self-confidence: "I’ve been that way since I was two years old. So, I mean, I can’t help it."
"That’s probably the best I’ve heard them all year long," Paul Pierce said of the crowd. "It was a playoff atmosphere."
Pierce says he's not really sure if that athletic tape he was wearing on his shoulder does anything but "the doctors say it helps."
Pierce: "This was a huge game." Acknowledges Nets basically couldn't win division if they had lost.
Plumlee on Pierce: "He's really the reason going small has worked, because he is so hard for opposing fours to guard."
Kidd: "The rebounding was close tonight." (looks at the stat sheet and smiles. "We normally don't even look at the rebounding."
Kidd confirms Garnett's back tightened up prior to the game.
Nets win 101-97, move to within three of the Raptors atop the Atlantic. Sign me up for this as a first round series, please.
What a terrible shot by Kyle Lowry.
I'll be very surprised if Deron Williams doesn't check back in here for offense.
Big game from Shaun Livingston. Paul Piercce drains 3-pointer to Nets up by 3 with 1:14 remaining.
Paul Pierce still hasn't put his right hand down. Big 3-pointer right in the eye of Kyle Lowry, and the Nets lead 97-94 with 1:14 left.
I've just seen a referee jump over a sweat-wiping person.
The guys filming Mr. Whammy tonight should really be following the raspy-voiced man having a season-long conversation with Andray Blatche.
And big minutes tonight from Pierce. Not huge numbers, but playing very well.
For all the calls Lowry has gotten tonight, not sure about that one. Think he was on the wrong end of it.
And here comes Johnson and Blatche
Deron Williams now has five fouls. Probably would have been better to let Hansbrough dunk that ball.
Deron Williams is having a fantastic game tonight.
There's no love lost between Deron Williams and Kyle Lowry.
I love watching Kyle Lowry play. Plays he's tail off, and his mouth never stops moving. Fun player to watch.
A "ref you suck" chant going around in the Barclays Center. Good atmosphere tonight.
That appeared to be a clean swipe by Deron Williams, who now has four fouls. Could loom large.
Paul pierce back in with four fouls. Plumlee, Williams, Collins, Blatche all have three.
Jason Collins has three fouls in three minutes.
Kyle Lowry just demanded Tre Maddox call a foul after that jumper, saying repeatedly, "I don't shoot air balls!" while pleading his case.
Kyle Lowry may not have made All-Star team, but he's getting a lot of All-Star whistles tonight. Getting benefit of doubt on lots of calls.
The friend of a woman sitting courtside has watched much of this Nets' comeback via Apple FaceTime.
Nets playing a lot of two-big lineups tonight. Have rarely seen this since switch to smallball, but it's working.
It's been pretty loud at various points tonight at Barclays Center, which is not always the case.
The Nets are really fired up for this one. Backing up their talk – other than Jason Kidd, at least – about wanting to get revenge on Raps.
Still dislike Delaware. Always will. But of course an ex-St. Joe's big takes them to the promised land. Hawk never dies, does it?
Big 3-pointer from joe Johnson puts the Nets up 64-60. Lowry not happy with Mason Plumlee, shoves him as he goes to the bench.
Kyle Lowry has drawn a third charge tonight. Living on the edge in this one. More importantly, sends Pierce to the bench with four fouls.
Lots of questionable calls all over the place at both ends tonight.
Lowry escapes from another 50-50 block/charge call without drawing a foul. Potentially big plays in the game.
Pierce with a sarcastic cheer for the officials after getting a call on that drive to the rim. Has been asking for one all night.
Not sure how the referees initially missed that, but finally corrected it to Nets ball.
Kevin Garnett was walking gingerly through the bowels of Barclays Center and appears to be leaving now in a Range Rover.
Kevin Garnett is leaving the arena at halftime, walking rather gingerly to his Range Rover
Not sure who would win – and I know it would be destined to be on NBATV – but a Raptors-Nets first round series would be very fun to watch.
Mason Plumlee is taking his frustration out on the Raptors. Perhaps related: the internet tells me he's dating Lolo Jones.
Nets trail 51-50 at the break. Nice recovery after a rough start should make for a fun second half.
Nets getting big production from Alan Anderson here. 3-pointer cuts the Raptors lead to one. Nets ball with 4.7 seconds left.
That's as animated as I've seen Mason Plumlee all season. Huge roar from him after slamming home a Deron Williams miss. Nets trail 49-46.
Live that looked like a questionable call, but Pierce did get him on the arm.
Williams is staying in the game and looks fine. Pre All-Star break that might've ended differently.
Scratch that, Johnson checked in for Livingston. Williams remains in the game.
I think it was his left leg, but hard to tell.
Deorn Williams is limping again. Looks like Joe Johnson is checking in for him. Landed awkwardly trying to defend Lowry's last 3-pointer.
Deron Williams is limping after contesting Kyle Lowry's shot.
That was a big swing call in the game, as Lowry easily could've gotten his third foul.
The Barclays Center picked up a new sponsor, apparently. So now we have Subway sandwiches racing on the Jumbotron.
Predictably, this Mirza-Blatche combo is not protecting the paint very well.
Losing the points in the paint and rebound battles is one thing. Allowing Tyler Hansbrough to go like this off is another.
Hansbrough and Blatche pick up double technicals.
Your second quarter Nets lineup: Livingston, Thornton, Anderson, Teletovic and Blatche.
The Raptors are killing Blatche in the pick-and-roll right now. Getting Hansbrough one open look at the rim after another.
Now Pierce heads to the bench with two fouls.
Dwane Casey kept Lowry out there with two fouls and milked a few extra minutes out of it. Nice move.
