Tell me, how much about the way 49ers mgmt has coddled Aldon Smith helped foster an atmosphere of good conduct in that locker room? Zero.
For that stance to draw the kind of fury I'm getting just shows something new and corrupt about the rabid part of the new 49ers fan base.
Didn't say Ray McDonald should be convicted or released. Let the process play out. I just said players should be held accountable.
$30M true guarantee for Alex Smith, plus $15M more vesting next March? Yes, that's slightly better than Kaepernick's $12.6M true guarantee.
The A's need another 2012 September
And it is not at all shocking that B/R's readership would be incredibly offended by independent thought that is not team-mandated.
Bleacher Report readers are furious that the site uses my stuff. All due respect to B/R's new hires, but I don't want my stuff on that site.
heroes don't quit...the only true failure is the failure to get up
Certainly not all or most 49ers fans are blindly backing wayward players. I just answer the angriest because stupidity needs to be zapped.
Fascinated by the ideological construct of me "owing the fans" an apology. For saying the 49ers should hold their players accountable?
"All body n no face"
Let's put it this way: I think if Jed York or Trent Baalke wanted me arrested, they could make it happen anywhere in the 408 area code.
When I asked how SJPD got my cellphone number, sergeant suggested an officer who works for the 49ers might've provided it. That is weird.
Sounds like someone in the 49ers organization gave the SJPD my cellphone number. Has the spin control already begun?
A section in my blog-item referred to reporting I'd read, and I presumed that came from the report. I'll clarify that in the blog-item.
Just got a call from the San Jose Police Dept. They want to clarify that the police report has not--and will not--be released in this case.
But Harbaugh believes in things and usually backs them up. He's not the guy Jed York has chosen to decide discipline, however.
Harbaugh-fans won't believe I'm saying this, but I believe he has the team's clearest moral barometer. It's from a coach's view, but..
That doesn't mean York can't step back in on some football matters. But he doesn't want to--that's why Baalke has taken over.
49ers fans used to make fun of other teams' fans for myopia. But I believe the new rabid 49ers crowd is the most willfully blind.
I'm saying that if Harbaugh has said and does believe that (which is very possible), he can impress that belief upon Baalke.
49ers fans are citing Whitner's paraphrase of Harbaugh as if it's a KNOWN team policy. I will repeat: It is NOT a known policy...
Those citing what Whitner said Harbaugh said as if it's a known 49ers policy: It's not. No exec or coach has said or acted on it publicly.
Only Harbaugh-fanatics could accuse me of being biased for saying let's see what the team actually does. Block-o-rama.
Let's see what Harbaugh DOES. Or you can keep telling me I'm terribly biased for wanting to see actual actions. That's your call.
But you're all going off of what Donte Whitner SAID Harbaugh said to players. Harbaugh to my knowledge has never said this publicly.
Are those the kinds of fans Jed York wants?
From those reports, it initially sounds like the 49ers did more caving on Boone's situation than Baalke & Marathe have ever done this late.
Just another slow news Sunday.
Tako sam ja jednom pokusao da uradim cik cak korak kao Harden. Napukla mi je peta metatarzalna.
OK I'll be blocking a lot of 49ers fans today. And some that I've enjoyed talking to in the past, but if you're going to go nuts: Done.
Note: Ray McDonald has always been one of the most popular players in the 49ers locker room. Irrelevant to this discussion, but just a note.
And... the A's just traded for Adam Dunn. Gave up minor-league pitcher Nolan Sanburn.
Harbaugh & Baalke emphasized Aldon Smith's punishment was up to the league, not the 49ers. That's an abandonment of principle.
This is why I've been pounding the 49ers on Aldon Smith for months. What are their standards for player behavior? They never had an answer.
The 49ers have already sent a crystal clear message with Aldon Smith: If you're good enough, they'll ignore just about anything.

This is really, really bad.

If the A's go 17-10 the rest of the way, they get to 95 wins. Which might or might not be enough to win the AL West.
If the Giants go 17-10 the rest of the way, they get to 90 wins. Which might be the NL West winning number.
Just saw we beat the breaks on Finland. Yessir!

Hmm, Wilbon as the voice-over for the Northwestern promo is an interesting choice. I'll always take Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but that's me.
OK, now this game is back on track for a 37-34 finish with somebody flinging one up at 0:01 to decide it.
Saw a bad accident on 880 am hour ago. Still kind of ... moved ... about it
Figured Cal would give my alma mater a serious challenge. But this is embarrassing.

And yes, former 49ers LB Jeff Ulbrich is UCLA's defensive coordinator.

I shouldn't say I "expected" anything w/the Smith suspension. Better said: I accounted for up to a 10-game ban in my 49ers Super Bowl pick.
The 49ers hoped and pushed for Smith to get ZERO games. He got a 9-game suspension. Reason that one out.
LA traffic....THE WORST
I don't understand how Goodell decides this. Seems random. But my point: Smith's penalty wasn't going to be off-set by last year's stint.
If you ask me, this shows the 49ers just wanted Smith to play for them, and rehab was a path to that. How does that off-set punishment?
49ers argued that Smith needed rehab to get better, not to play more football. So now they say he has to play football as much as possible?
The 49ers and Smith said it was what he NEEDED to do. Which I believe. So to push that it off-sets future punishment is faulty logic.
The 49ers and their fans got the five-game rehab absence all wrong. Every response I'm getting reflects that you're still getting it wrong.
I have no idea if this was part of Goodell's thinking, but the 49ers' argument that a PAID absence should negate a suspension was insulting.
The key words with Aldon Smith, I believe, are "multiple offenses." That has always been my focus in relation to NFL punishment.
4--If the 49ers didn't know Smith might get 8 or more games, they were being willfully naive.
3--I said weeks ago that this would in some way show whether Jed York has clout with Goodell. We just saw how much.
2--I never understood why 49ers people thought Smith's 5-game rehab absence would substitute for a suspension. He was PAID during rehab...
Some thoughts on Aldon Smith's 9-game suspension: 1--Since the appeals process is apparently over, NFL maybe initially wanted MORE than 9...
