OKC Thunder are listing SF Kevin Durant (ankle) as OUT for their game on Sunday vs. Pelicans.
Pelicans recall Russ Smith from NBA Development League
Mekel release, Evans' uncertainty... Russ is a little insurance at guard. This does not affect the roster spot opened by Mekel release.
Looks like Russ' recall could serve many purposes: Ants are off for a week, Pelicans have 4 games in that span... Time with team...
It's so hard to continue to try and move forward and then run into days like today. Today is Gia's birthday. We miss you so much Petrie
Pelicans (13-12) enter weekend in 8th in West. They're 1 game ahead of Suns (13-14) and 1.5 ahead of OKC (12-14). Thunder at Lakers tonight
Tyreke Evans said there remains swelling in his right knee. He's taking an anti inflammatory & will test knee tomorrow at shootaround
Pain after shootaround, medical opinion tomorrow will determine if he plays tomorrow. Swelling is also an issue. http://t.co/M4EVtNnJA0
Lots of ice on Evans' knee. Pain is an issue. He did light shooting work today.
Here comes Evans
Last call for Pelicans' twitter mailbag questions today: Pelicans outplayed the Rockets in fourth quarter. Surprised or did you expect it?
Team having a short meeting during practice, Dell messing around in the conference room. Sitting on the bleachers, listening to the rain.
Coach also said of Mekel that they brought Mekel in to get a look, are going in a different direction, but liked what he brought to the team
Mekel move was partially financial, have not ruled out bringing him back. Him coming in stirred the pot, though that was not intended.
Coach feels the ball movement waning at times is a "natural occurrence." They have talented players, but they need to work together more.
Coach Williams says the team did not play well for a full 48m against Portland.
Coach was pleased with Cunningham's defense. He was hoping Jimmer could help space the floor.
Normally guys are still working on the court at this point in practice. It just went silent.
Evans day-to-day, will be evaluated tomorrow. They do not want to jump the gun.
Coach Williams likes how the defense last night led to transition offense.
Evans just nailed a 3 in practice http://t.co/deNpi1TPFH
Pelicans waive guard Gal Mekel
So this is late and has been covered already, but it was really nice meeting Gordon tonight. Great experience for all of us. -Pellissier
Dante Cunningham interview was interrupted by voice saying "The gameplan is get Dante the ball and get out of the way." It was Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis: "When you hold a team like that to 90 points, that's a great job. When we defend, we're a tough team to beat."
Great win in Houston tonight!
Monty: "Our defense in the 4th quarter helped us out, holding them to 22 points. It's just a great win for us."
Monty on intensity of game vs. Rockets: "The way we played, it felt like practice. That's how our practices are - it's like a fight."
Jrue Holiday on winning on road at 19-6 Houston: "It was a big one. Obviously we know their record."
I have a lot of thoughts about this one and the Pelicans play recently, but I'm going to save that for later. Check out the BSS post game!
Pelicans are 13-12 and get a big division win. December is going much better than I could have hoped for so far.
Pelicans improve to 13-12 with 99-90 win against the Rockets. Anthony Davis had 30 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks.
Pelicans are up 99-90 with less than 30 seconds. Sure, Rockets were tired, but this W counts jus as much as any other.
The more I watch Dante Cunningham the more I think he was exactly what the Pelicans needed, a gritty, tough player who can also shoot it.
Holiday again. This time with the jumper.
Jrue Holiday and Dante Cunningham HUGE in 4Q, combining for 15 pts. Pelicans 99-90 with 29.5 seconds left
With that assist Holiday has a double-double (14 points and 10 assists)
Holiday gets another steal. He has been huge late in this game. BTW, he is having the best season of his career.
Jrue Holiday comes up with huge strip of Harden, leading to Anthony Davis (30 pts/14 reb) free throws. Pelicans 93-84 at 1:40 of 4Q
Holiday gets another bucket at the rim. Pelicans are leading 91-81 with 2:21 remaining.
Holiday throws it down with the left hand. Lazy defense by the Rockets there. Happy Jrue made them pay.
Anderson does an excellent job of protecting his shot with the reverse layup down low.
Pelicans on 20-9 fourth quarter run to take a 85-77 lead.
Pelicans lead the Rockets by 8. 85-77 with 5:28 to go.
Pelicans defense has been super in the fourth quarter. They lead the Rockets 85-77 with 5:28 to play.
Pelicans have outscored Rockets 20-9 in 4Q. Harden and Howard now both have 4 fouls after Howard obliterated Ryan Anderson. 5:28 left
There has been gnashing of teeth about AD closing out 4th quarters. We are all happier now, yes?
Ryno hits a 3 and pushes the lead to 4!
Pelicans regain lead 77-73.
Pelicans making their fourth-quarter push
DC hustles so much. I'm falling out of like with Cunningham... and straight into love.
Jimmer Fredette did not play in first 3 quarters but he's on floor to begin 4th. Ryan Anderson drills 3 to give Pels 77-73 lead at 8:48
FT from Rivers give the Pelicans the lead with just over 10 minutes left to play.
DC hits a 3. I mentioned the 3 ball being added to his game in a post about his signing. I still think it is a possibility.
Jimmer is in for the first time tonight. Clearly, the Pels wouldn't mind an offensive spark.
That 3rd quarter was ugly for the Pels. Don't need a lot of complicated stats. Pels lost the quarter 29-19.
Pelicans trailing 68-65 at the end of third quarter. Houston outscored N.O. 29-19 in quarter.
At the end of the 3rd Pelicans are down, 68-65.
Houston takes the lead off a steal and fast break. They are up 65 to 63.
Jimmer Fredette about to make his first appearance of the night.
Rockets have outscored Pelicans 22-17 in third quarter to close to 63-61
Jrue Holiday (3-10 FGs, 6 pts) hasn't made shots tonight, but he's been a demon on D, guarding Harden, getting steals, deflections, 2 blocks
That was ugly. Timeout with 2:31 in the 3rd quarter. Pelicans are up 63-61.
