I went for that pump fake and I’m at press row, a full section from the court.
J.R. Smith, colder than a Texas Shiner Bock out of an ice box, takes about the worst shot he could - step inside the 3 - and hits it for OT.
J.R. Smith was 1-for-10 entering the 4th quarter. He's hit 4 for 6 in the fourth, including that game-tying jumper with 0.9 seconds to play.
JR throws up the most ridiculous of shots, and hits the 22-foot step back anyway. Wow. Tie game at 95.
Fisher elected against calling timeout -- Knicks had one left -- and Dalembert ended up missing a potential go-ahead shot.
Calderon doing everything for the Knicks tonight. Seven 3s. Terrific alleyoop to Stoudemire.
What a play by Calderon. What a game from him. Nice to see his impact on the game.
Fisher's end-of-game lineup is interesting. Kept Amar'e (7 TOs, 2-of-7 shooting) & JR (5 TOs, 4-of-15 shooting) out there over Shump.
Amar'e has gone 1-on-1 against Tyson in the post at least four or five times and gotten the same result each time he tries.
With a hand in his face and no room to maneuver, Calderon drops his 7th 3-pointer and Knicks lead 89-88. Welcome back.
Some Knicks players seemed to have the same expression that Tyson would have with Woodson - throwback!
Stat o' the Day: Travis Wear is +8 in 3 minutes.
Interesting that Shumpert is still on the bench here. Has had an OK game offensively, and Ellis is tearing up Knick wing players.
Curious as to whether Fisher will bring Pablo back as game winds down. He's 4-of-5 from three, while J.R. Smith is 1-of-10 from the field.
Similar to Rockets game, Knicks putting together some nice runs in Melo's absence. Have to finish, but have 77-71 lead here in Dallas.
Only Tyson Chandler has showed up for Dallas tonight. Knicks up 6 points early in fourth quarter.
Prigioni hit four threes in the third.
Calderon and Prigioni have 27 points. Every one of them has stemmed from a 3-pointer.
I say it once every year, but I really, really wish I couldve seen Prigioni play in his prime. The guy can score just fine when he wants to.
Pablo is on fire from deep tonight. He just buried another long ball and is 4-4 for the night.
Prigioni has hit three three-pointers in the third. The last one was a heat check from way deep and he drilled it.
Pablo is just toying with the Mavericks
PABLO OUTCHEA FLOURISHIN
Tyson Chandler has 17 rebounds with 3:08 left in the 3rd. I think they are all on J.R. Smith misses. He scouted that one.
Tyson Chandler already has a season-high 17 rebounds.
So Nets are only up 1 on Sixers in final minute. I wonder if Jason Kidd can get out of a contract and come coach them this year?
Chandler with season-high 17 rebounds. Still 3:30 left in the 3Q.
Calderon (5-for-6) and Prigioni a combined 7-of-8 from beyond the arc.
The Knicks' bigs have really poor catching skills.
Jose Calderon is 5-of-6 from three tonight.
Mavs shooting 3-of-18 from 3-point range
Cuban: "We’ve got to respond because if we are who they say we are we better be who we are or we won’t be the team that they say we are."
Fair warning - greatest (and only) existential Mark Cuban quote coming up now...
Jose Calderon has 94 double-doubles in his career. Only two of those have involved the rebounding category. Has 12 pts, 7 boards at half
J.R. Smith was inserted into the starting lineup in place of Carmelo tonight. He is 0-7 shooting. I suppose Melo would have done better.
Tyson Chandler has a double-double against the Knicks in the first half.
JR next to Chandler on a free throw. Was watching to see if he'd untie his shoelaces, but no.
J.R. Smith, starting in place of injured Melo, 0-for-7 in the first half. Has four assists, but can't buy a bucket.
Carmelo says his back still feels "sore" and "stiff." Says he "couldn't move" after the Houston game: "I've never felt this way before."
Carmelo through club PR man: "I've never felt this way before. Nothing happened (in Houston) that I can remember."
Carmelo: "They said these things are hard to gauge - I just don't know how long I'll be out."
This is the 1st time for Melo dealing w/ back spasms. He said, "I've never felt this way before."
Mavs with a drug-fueled Thanksgiving video featuring Dirk dancing with a giant turkey mask on his head. Take that Charlie Brown.
Calderon with 12 points -- all off 3-point shots. Will be one of his biggest contributions to this team. Really is an elite shooter.
Carmelo Anthony said his back is feeling a little bit better and Wednesday was the first day he's gotten to walk around a little bit.
Carmelo: It's gotten a little bit better but today was the first day that I actually got to walk around a little bit."
Carmelo Anthony on possibly playing Friday: "I just don't know. It's too far ahead for me to even think about right now."
"Jim, can you talk about your two new obsessions, the D-League and Taylor Swift."
Knicks handed oust Melo quotes. "These things are hard to gauge. I don't know long I"ll be out."
If Mark Cuban gets to sit in with Mike Breen & Jeff Van Gundy, I say Jim Dolan gets equal time.
Two guys traded for each other are rebounding well tonight: Chandler has nine boards and Calderon, yes Calderon, has 7.
Fisher has had some questionable strategies, but holding Hardaway Jr accountable is something that wasn't done a year ago.
Tim Hardaway Jr. just got another quick hook from Derek Fisher - who then gave him a talk as he went to the bench, looking none too happy.
Calderon in his return to Dallas: 9 points and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes so far.
Dirk just took a swipe at Jason Smith. Testy.
I don't mind Jason Smith taking jumpers when he's wide-open. But Im not sure his midrange j's are ideal when there's a guy right in his face
Dirk w/ just 2pts / 3 attempts in this first quarter.
Looks like Fisher is going to stick w/ 3-guard lineup as Prigioni and Larkin check-in.
Chandler has six points and eight boards in first 8:30. Going Kevin Love on Knicks. But Team Tyson down 5.
Tyson has six points and eight rebounds in the first eight minutes of this game.
Odder than the 3 3-pointers for Calderon in 7:34 is that he's taken 6 shots. And odder than that is that he has 5 rebounds.
Tyson who? Calderon with his 3rd 3-pointer of the first quarter.
As for Berman of the Post suggesting/guessing that this could cost Carmelo his season: "I don’t think it will be too long."
Carmelo Anthony tells reporters: "I could barely walk or do anything yesterday so I’m doing a little better. I’m walking.’’
Jose Calderon is a good shooter, I think.
Chandler scores the first basket, because of course he does.
Dalembert wins the tipoff vs Chandler, confirming once and for all that he's the superior center.
Just clarify: Carmelo is here to support teammates and get a little more treatment. Not playing. But flying to Oklahoma.
More Carmelo as he enters: "“I could barely walk or do anything yesterday so I’m doing a little better. I’m walking.’’
To be clear - Carmelo is not playing, but is just here in the arena in Dallas.
Knicks will probably need to play really, really solid defense to beat certain teams now that Melo's out. And w/ their defense, ionomane...
Carmelo as gingerly walks in: "I don’t think it will be too long. I think the spasms will go away. But I’m not going to play with spasms.’’
So Derek Fisher said that Carmelo was not coming to the arena. Carmelo is in the arena. Now you see why Cuban was upset.
Carmelo Anthony is in building walking gingerly but walking.
Cuban asked about Fisher: "I'm more concerned with his health and welfare. I know how hard it is for him to fly and travel and be away."
More NBA owner fun: Cuban took a little shot at Fisher, who walked away from Mavs to be by family in LA and then signed with OKC. ...
