Pretty cool watching some of NYKs younger players play down the stretch of a close game. Doesnt mean much, but could help them eventually.
Stephon Marbury was here tonight and is just leaving. Walked by Phil Jackson on his way out.
Nets, um, tanking also sets the Wizards up as the weakest No. 5 seed since whoever Harvard beat.
Genuinely curious as to how the Knicks would handle a game-winning shot scenario if this game comes down to that. Iso-Pablo?
Biggest comeback the Knicks had prior to tonight: 12 points, at Golden State last month.
Not that it matters at all, but Knicks were down by as much as 21 tonight. They now have the lead. Would mark their biggest comeback of yr
Anyway, Knicks have come from 21 down to tie this at 74 entering 4th after Raptors have already clinched No. 3 seed with Bulls loss.
Both losses to TOR came on 2nd of back-to-backs after emotional games (2 OTs vs Miami, 1st return to Boston.) Nothing like that in playoffs.
Besides not wanting to mess with the Bulls again after losing last year, can understand other logic for Nets tanking way to Raptors ...
Toronto is the third seed. The Steve Clifford Bobcats beat the Tom Thibodeau Bulls.
At this moment - subject to change in next moment - it's Indy vs. Atlanta, Miami vs. Charlotte, Raptors vs Nets and Chicago vs. Washington.
Tom Thibodeau and Steve Clifford are a different breed - heading to playoffs with regulars playing over 40 minutes tonight - trying to win.
Good get by MSG Network's Jill Martin for a halftime guest. Actor Steve Schirripa has only attended 39 of the 41 Knicks home games.
I'm guessing that nearly everyone who played for or worked with Phil will be rumored to be a candidate to work for Knicks in some way.
Although it's looking like JR might barely avoid joining the list. He's slightly above 65% from the line.
Looked it up yesterday: Only 2 guys have ever shot 40% or better from three & 65% or worse from the line on 100 or more attempts.
JR is shooting almost 40% from three-point range. He's shooting 65% from the line. Almost unheard of for someone to do both simultaneously.
JR's shot selection these past few games has been even more YOLO than usual.
For the record, Tyler Hansbrough played in the Knicks final game last season as well.
At least the Knicks City Dancers are still championship quality. (They had a better year than the owner.)
Kyle Lowry has 17 points after one quarter. Just in case the Nets, who appear to want to play the Raptors, cared to know that.
End 1Q: Knicks 21, Kyle Lowry 17.
In hindsight, would y'all have definitely given up the 1st-round pick for Kyle Lowry? He's been incredible this season.
Well, that was scary. Looks like Tyler is fine, though.
For those responding "they signed Odom just for tonight?" Season technically ends June 30th. Free agency starts 7/1. according to reports...
Only seems appropriate that this disastrous Knicks season ends with Masai Ujiri in the house.
Knicks celebrating Fan Appreciation night. Media Appreciation night remains scheduled for Feb. 30.
Grunwald did that with Dan Gadzuric two years ago and he was added to Felton sign-and-trade trade to make it work.
As we've reported, signing Odom today instead of July 1 is if doesn't work out, that 2nd non-guaranteed year could be cap filler in trade.
Correction: four times.
And Odom would probably help with NYKs lack of on-court IQ. Very smart, versatile player. Just have to see if he can still play.
Woodson spoke with the media pregame for 8 minutes, only used the word "unfortunately" three times.
Spent a good 5-10 minutes talking with Shannon Brown about Odom yesterday. Has had his issues, but teammates generally love the guy.
Will have a story coming out later as to how Odom can help. But even if he can't, dont see a huge downside here. Just a long-term tryout.
More Woodson: "I like Bargnani."
More Woodson: "We’ve had some misfortunes in terms of injuries and things of that nature. I’ve never once used that as an excuse."
To those asking: Yes, signing Odom today means this season is Year 1. Next season (nonguaranteed) is Year 2.
Woodson, bold to the bitter end: "I’m the only guy for this job. I’ve always said that. and I don’t mean that in a braggadocios way."
I really like the Odom pickup, by the way.
Odom is not here at the Garden, by the way.
Lamar Odom's contract w/Knicks is a 2-year deal, per source. Second year is nonguaranteed.
The Knicks have signed Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season. Knicks will evaluate him over offseason.
BTW - Although he could be, don't count on Odom just being contract trade chip. Has team option and Phil likes him.
Knicks finally announce Odom signing. Will make pro rates 8,500 bucks for one game.
Berman of the Post is reporting that Lamar Odom would consider playing in Israel in 2015.
Knicks President Phil Jackson announced that the team has signed forward Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season.”
The surgery for Kenyon Martin is to remove bone spurs from his ankle. Waited until now for the purpose of trying to return this year.
Phil Jackson announced that the team has signed forward Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season.
Kenyon says wants to be back as a Knick
Kenyon says expects to have ankle surgery soon.
Kenyon said underachieving is on the team - but knows it will fall on the coach.
Kenyon Martin said he will have a procedure on his ankle at same point, probably a scope.
Let's cut the NBA season to 80 games, since nobody plays the last 2 anymore anyway.
Woodson: Am I the guy for the job? I’m the only guy for this job. I’ve always said that. And I don’t mean that in a braggadocios way
Woodson was asked if he will be a part of exit interviews with players. He declined to comment. It's common for a coach to take part in them
Jim Dolan just arrived and missed bumping into Masai Uriji by 10 minutes. In other words, the Knicks still own their 2018 first round pick.
Woodson said he expects to get word on his status from Phil Jackson in the coming days.
Woodson on his future: "Is it fair to let me go? I don't think so."
Woodson thinks he should come back as Knicks coach but he said it's up to management.
Woodson: "You can point the finger in a lot of directions, man. But at the end of the day, the coach gets blamed."
Mike Woodson on his future: "Is it fair to let me go? I don't think so."
Woodson on his uncertain future: "Is it fair to let me go? I don't think so."
Woodson was asked if he would take part in exit interviews with the players. He said, "I won't comment on that."
Woodson: "Is it fair to let me go? I don't think so. But I don't get to make that decision."
Mike Woodson: "If they bring me back I'll make damn sure this doesn't happen again."
Woodson would not comment on if he will be part of the exit interviews.
And to think that Masai Ujiri made these brilliant moves without the help if Irving Azoff.
