VC on video tribute/standing O: "It was a great feeling. I couldnt write it any better. I'm extremely thankful... You cant prepare for that"
Vince: "It was a great feeling. I couldn't write it any better. … I'm extremely thankful for it."
Hayes on Gasol's 19-foot fadeaway: “I was about to kick the scorer’s table when he made that shot. I’m happy I kept my cool.”
Hayes: "I was bummed because they said they made four field goals in the fourth & two of them they made on me. Im kind of irritated by that"
That was a solid preview of the NBA Finals.
Memphis coach Dave Joerger: “That was a great game … that’s a good team over there."
Shower and then bed .. could really use a good massage right about now
The “Chuck Hayes for mayor” talk created some banter about whether he would have been a better mayor than Rob Ford. I said yes.
Hayes: "…they said they made four field goals in the fourth, and two of them they made on me. I’m kind of irritated by that.”
JV on Hayes: "As you have the touch in the shooting, he has the feeling on the defensive end.”
Casey on Hayes: "He has a low centre of gravity. He does a great job. He was our MVP, coming in and slowing down Gasol.”
Vince Carter on the reception: "It was great. I'm truly thankful for it."
Overheard by Raptors employee in locker room: "Chuck Hayes for mayor."
Casey called Chuck Hayes tonight's MVP
Casey on Hayes: "He knows who he is. He's one of the best big man defenders in the league. He's got a low centre of gravity. He was our MVP"
Fittingly, Casey may have won this game with his Hayes for JV sub in the 4th
More history: Dwane Casey passes Lenny Wilkens and takes sole possession of 2nd on the Raptors all-time coaching wins list
Sure, the Raps are 7-0 when leading after 3Q. More impressively, they're 2-2 when trailing after 3Q (+12 in 4th in those 2 losses). No quit
Raptors outscore Memphis 27-17 in the 4th to erase a 6pt deficit & WIN 96-92. They improve to 9-2 on the season (9-2, sound familiar Leafs?)
'Topes win! 96-92. Naismith Cup champs!
I have a bit of a philosophical issue with it, but Casey might have won this game with Hayes over JV.
Raptors have assists on 24 of 38 buckets against one tough defensive group. Huge improvement over most of season.
Casey has gone with Hayes in the game's final 10 minutes. He's made Gasol/Z-Bo work for everything. Big catalyst in the comeback
Not the best game for Kyle Lowry - until it counted. Then, as he does he came through. Massive jumper should seal it barring Memphis miracle
Lowry drills one that hit the Bon Jovi banner, practically. Raps by 4, 8.2 left.
You have to go a long way to get around Chuck Hayes, Zach.
The Chuckwagon is rolling. Hayes making a huge difference.
The Chuck Hayes Game.
The entire tenor of this game changed when Hayes came into this game. Kudos to Casey for throwing him out there and sticking with it.
Hayes, make no mistake, has been awesome in his 9 minutes.
Of note: after playing a season-high 34 mins Saturday vs Utah, Valanciunas has logged 22 tonight, including 5 in the 2nd half
How do you NOT run into Zach Randolph. That takes talent. And Chuck Hayes justifies being in game over JV by taking a crucial charge.
Amir has five assists tonight. Raps have 23 dimes on 35 buckets.
Lowry darts to the rim and ties the game at 90, 2:49 left. Meanwhile, Ross has 14 of his 16 points (and 14 of the Raps' 21) in the 4th
Ross hasn’t been this hot since his 51 point game.
Kyle Lowry Bowling Ball Drive. Tie game.
“They make it tough on the officials and the opponent on defence” Casey before game on Grizzlies. Meaning play tough refs can call it or not
Valanciunas should be getting a chance. Hayes is doing as good of a job as you can, but that's not really the point.
Mistakes happen, but an out of bounds behind Raptors bucket should have been Raptors ball, DeRozan was fouled, jump ball not foul on Greivis
T-Ross has awoken scoring 11 points in the second half and is now 2/5 from 3-pt line. He began 0-3 from long range.
Officiating crew not doing a great job here in the fourth.
Ross has now scored the Raptors' last 11 points. After hitting just 1 of his first 7 shots, he's 4 for his last 5
Lowry getting torched by old pal Conley.
The only colour Terrence Ross sees right now is green.
Chuck Hayes is strong. Just forced Gasol to take two really tough shots. He made 'em both, because he is good and tall.
All Chuck Hayes can do is mutter to himself after he plays stellar post defence on Marc Gasol, who nails a circus shot on him.
Raptors +49 scoring margin in the 4th quarter is tops in the NBA. They've outscored the Grizz 8-1 to begin the Q, now lead by 1
Signs of life from T-Ross, abandoning the jump shot, which isn't falling and going to the rim, where he's scored 4 straight to tie the game
Must have been the snowstorm. Terrence Ross has finally arrived at arena though and has tied this game for the Raptors with a surge.
The Grizzlies are having the type of possessions that teams missing half of their rotation players w/ the flu tend to have.
Huge roar as Chuck Hayes enters the game to beat the hell out of Marc Gasol.
Chuck Hayes sighting. He's in to wrestle with Gasol.
Here comes Chaz Hayes.
Raptors going real small to start the 4th: Vasquez/Lou/Ross/DeRozan/Pat. Gasol is set to check back in for Memphis, Z-Bo still on bench
Minutes watch: Without Johnson to supplement wing spot, DeRozan is at 31 and counting.
Rough night for Vasquez and Ross - combined 2-for-12 from the field.
DeRozan first FTA comes 23 seconds into the fourth quarter after nearly posterizing young Jarnell Stokes. He splits the pair.
Raptors trail Grizzlies 75-69 after three Raptors NBA’s best fourth quarter team with +4.9 point differential. Second-highest scoring in 4th
Raps still down six heading into the fourth. DeMar has 18 to lead all scorers but Raps getting pounded on the boards by a 40-24 margin.
Raps trail 75-69 after 3. Other than a quick 9-0 run, another bad Q. Little flow.
Not unrelated: DeRozan (3rd in NBA averaging 8.7 FTA per game) has yet to get to the line.
Zach Randolph would be great in any era. Throwback force. And he always kills the Raptors.
Raptors entered the game averaging 31.1 FTA a night (2nd in NBA) - they've been to the line 8 times with less than a minute to go in the 3rd
