STAYING: Omri Casspi, Darren Collison, DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, Ben McLemore and David Stockton.
ADDED: Quincy Acy (New York), James Anderson (Zalgiris Kaunas), Marco Belinelli (San Antonio), Caron Butler (Detroit), Willie Cauley-Stein (Kentucky), Seth Curry (Erie), Duje Dukan (Wisconsin), Kosta Koufos (Memphis) and Rajon Rondo (Dallas).
GONE: Reggie Evans (Free Agent), Ryan Hollins (Free Agent), Carl Landry (Philadelphia), Eric Moreland (Free Agent), Ray McCallum (San Antonio), Andre Miller (Minnesota), Nik Stauskas (Philadelphia), Jason Thompson (Golden State) and Derrick Williams (New York).
STRENGTHS: On paper, the most talented team the Kings have put together in years … Sacramento has one of the few dominant big men left in DeMarcus Cousins, a go-to guy in the post that pretty much guarantees 20 points and 10 rebounds per night … He’s a skilled passer to boot … Rudy Gay is a nice No. 2 offensive option … At his best, Rajon Rondo makes offenses go with terrific playmaking … Nice depth at the point guard and center positions with Darren Collison and Kosta Koufos, who would be starters for some NBA clubs … The addition of Caron Butler brings a voice of reason and a calming influence to a difficult locker room … Marco Belinelli gives Sacramento a much-needed shooting threat … This team has had many issues in the last few seasons, but rebounding the ball was not one of them.
WEAKNESSES: It’s a dysfunctional organization where turmoil always seems to be around the corner … A lot of mercurial personalities in that locker room … Are the franchise player and the head coach indeed on the same page after all the drama? … Rondo clashed with Doc Rivers and Rick Carlisle in the past, which doesn’t bode well for his relationship with George Karl … The Kings have rarely been a cohesive unit in recent years … With many new pieces coming in, how is all going to work? … Sacramento’s outside shooting was nothing to call home about and it figures to get worse with Rondo on the floor … He’s not even making his free throws lately … Hole at the power forward position … Rookie Willie Cauley-Stein will be asked to contribute right away … Defense needs vast improvement and so does franchise culture.
PREDICTION: 3rd in the Pacific Division / 9th in the Western Conference.
