STAYING: Darrell Arthur, Will Barton, Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried, Randy Foye, Danilo Gallinari, Erick Green, Gary Harris, JJ Hickson, Joffrey Lauvergne, Jameer Nelson and Jusuf Nurkic.
ADDED: Matt Janning (Anadolu Efes), Nick Johnson (Houston), Nikola Jokic (Mega Vizura), Mike Miller (Cleveland), Emmanuel Mudiay (Guangdong Southern Tigers), Oleksiy Pecherov (Kalev/Cramo) and Devin Sweetney (Huracanes del Atlantico).
GONE: Ian Clark (Golden State), Jamaal Franklin (Free Agent) and Ty Lawson (Houston).
STRENGTHS: Solid team at the forward spots … Sharpshooter Danilo Gallinari comes off a terrific Eurobasket and Kenneth Faried sounds like a happy camper again with Michael Malone as head coach … Faried has one of the best combinations of motor, strength and athleticism in the NBA … If he puts it all together, he can do a lot of damage … Whether starting or coming off the bench, Wilson Chandler is a consistent contributor at three different positions … Jameer Nelson is a nice mentor for the many young players on the team … Improved chemistry and effort with a new coach in town? … Addition by subtraction with Ty Lawson gone?
WEAKNESSES: Just not enough weapons … Not many starting-caliber NBA players in Denver … They are pretty thin at the point guard and center positions … Rookie Emmanuel Mudiay and second-year player Jusuf Nurkic may be asked to do too much early in their careers … They don’t have many guys that can create off the dribble … One of the worst teams in the NBA when it comes to three-point and free-throw shooting … Defense needs a lot of improvement … For all their troubles, the Nuggets were at least a pretty decent at fast breaks with Lawson … Will that still be the case this year?
PREDICTION: 4th in the Northwest Division / 14th in the Western Conference.
