STAYING: Jose Juan Barea, Raymond Felton, Devin Harris, Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Dwight Powell and Charlie Villanueva.

ADDED: Justin Anderson (Virginia), Brandon Ashley (Arizona), Samuel Dalembert (Free Agent), Jeremy Evans (Utah), Jarrid Famous (GlobalPort Batang Pier), John Jenkins (Atlanta), Wesley Matthews (Portland), JaVale McGee (Free Agent), Salah Mejri (Real Madrid), Maurice Ndour (Ohio), Zaza Pachulia (Milwaukee), Deron Williams (Brooklyn) and Jamil Wilson (Bakersfield Jam).

GONE: Rajon Rondo (Sacramento), Richard Jefferson (Cleveland), Tyson Chandler (Phoenix), Al-Farouq Aminu (Portland), Monta Ellis (Indiana), Greg Smith (Free Agent), Bernard James (Shanghai Sharks) and Amare Stoudemire (Miami).

STRENGTHS: A lot of talent and depth on the perimeter … They have good ballhandlers, playmakers, shooters and defenders … Deron Williams with Wesley Matthews and Chandler Parsons could be a really strong trio if everything falls into place … Parsons is primed for a breakout season … Dirk Nowitzki remains a very dangerous offensive player at the power forward position … They have many experienced guys that play the right way …  The organization has a winning culture … Rick Carlisle typically gets the best out of the personnel he has.

WEAKNESSES: If Nowitzki can keep it up, if Williams bounces back, if Matthews recovers nicely from injury … There’s just too many ifs with this team and very few guarantees … Although still a very fine player, Nowitzki is past his prime … No longer a star with the ability to carry a team on his shoulders … Dallas is pretty thin in the frontcourt … Center position is a problem after the DeAndre Jordan fiasco and Tyson Chandler‘s departure … Zaza Pachulia was a decent pickup, but backups Samuel Dalembert and JaVale McGee are nothing if not inconsistent … Let’s not even talk about basketball IQ … When it comes to athleticism, the Mavericks will be at a disadvantage against most opponents … Pretty veteran club … Staying healthy could be a challenge.

PREDICTION: 5th in the Southwest Division / 8th in the Western Conference.
