ERIK SPOELSTRA, COACH OF THE YEAR
Back when LeBron still played for the Miami Heat, many considered head coach Erik Spoelstra’s success a byproduct of having one of the most talented teams of all time at his disposal. Regardless, it didn’t take long for that stigma to wash away once James left Miami for his hometown Cavs. Spoelstra has consistently fielded one of the toughest teams in the league year-in and year-out since James’ departure, even when the talent on his roster hasn’t come close to matching those of the Big Three days. If that trend continues in 2018-19, Spoelstra, who is now thought of as one of brightest coaches in the league, will make another strong case for Coach of the Year, and perhaps even take the award home for the first time in his career.
