“The Glove” was a defensive genius. He was chosen as the second pick in the 1990 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. Gary Payton did not arrive in Boston until 2004, starting 77 games while averaging 11.6 ppg in his lone season as a Celtic. Payton was nine times named to the All-NBA Defensive Team, was a member of the 2005-06 champion Miami Heat, and scored 21,813 points. In the 1995-96 season, he led the league in steals and was named Defensive Player of the Year.
