The Celtics chose Dave Cowens with the fourth overall pick in the 1970 NBA Draft. He proved to be a stellar choice, earning immediate dividends as the Rookie of the Year. Cowens won two championships and was an eight-time All-Star. He was the league MVP and All-Star Game MVP in 1973. Cowens actually was a player-coach for Boston during the 1978-79 season. He averaged 17.6 ppg and 13.6 rebounds per game in his career. His No. 18 was retired by the Celtics.
