9. James Harden, Houston Rockets
STATS: 31.5 ppg, 8.2 apg, 5.8 rpg, 2.2 spg, 45.4 FG%, 37.1 3P%
This was an excellent week for Harden, as the Rockets won four-straight games (over the Blazers, Lakers, Grizzlies and Jazz!) and the reigning MVP had some dominant outings. During the win streak, Harden has averaged 39.5 points, 7.5 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
He had 50 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and 2 steals to beat the Lakers, tying Russell Westbrook for most 50-point triple-doubles in NBA history. He followed that up with a 32-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist, 2-steal performance against the Grizzlies and a 47-point, 6-rebound, 5-assist, 5-steal game against the Jazz.
While the Rockets seem to be trending in the right direction, this is a team that keeps having strange ups and downs. This season, they’ve had the following streaks: won three, lost four, won three, lost two, won five, lost four, won two, lost three, won four. It’s hard to tell if Houston is ready to flip the switch or if another losing streak is right around the corner.
Still, this is a positive stretch for a Houston team that needed a confidence boost. Now, they’re just half a game outside of the West playoff picture and only five games back from the No. 1 seed.
