Aggregate NBA mock draft 4.0: Duke's AJ Griffin is soaring back into the top tier

- by

The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

In order to help us get a better sense of where all of the projected top prospects in the class stand as of right now, we compiled mock drafts from Draft Express (ESPN), Aran Smith (NBADraft.net), Sam Vecenie (The Athletic), Jonathan Wasserman (Bleacher Report), Chad Ford (NBA Big Board), Krysten Peek (Yahoo), Matt Babcock (Basketball News) as well as USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s For The Win.

Please note that these rankings reflect the composite score in order to get a feel for consensus, not our own opinion. Predictions for a first overall pick earned a player 58 points while the second overall pick earned 57 points, the third overall earned 56 points, and so on.

AJ Griffin (Duke), Alondes Williams (Wake Forrest), Iverson Molinar (Mississippi State), Orlando Robinson (Fresno State), Walker Kessler (Fresno State), Justin Lewis (Marquette), Christian Braun (Kansas), and Tari Eason (LSU) have improved their draft stock the most since our most recent update last month.\

The most notable prospects who made their debut on our rankings were Shaedon Sharpe (Kentucky), David Roddy (Colorado State), and Jaylin Williams (Arkansas).

Meanwhile, the top prospects who were not included in any of these recent mock drafts are Daimion Collins (Kentucky), Alex Fudge (LSU), Justin Moore (Villanova), Darius Days (LSU), Jared Rhoden (Seton Hall), Tre Mitchell (Texas), Dawson Garcia (North Carolina), and more.

Otherwise, you can learn the latest updates on every single prospect who has been included in recent mock drafts by scrolling below.

HoopsHype’s Alberto de Roa contributed research to this report

1
Jabari Smith

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

(Auburn: Big, Freshman, 6-10)

Previous rank: 1 (+0)

Best rank: 1 (NBA Big Board, Basketball News, NBADraft.net)

Worst rank: 3

Multiple publications have Auburn’s Jabari Smith as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. None have him falling anywhere outside of the first three picks.

2
Chet Holmgren

(AP Photo/Young Kwak)

(Gonzaga: Big, Freshman, 7-1)

Previous rank: 3 (+1)

Best rank: 1 (ESPN, For The Win, Bleacher Report, Athletic, CBS)

Worst rank: 4

Although he currently falls at No. 2 in these rankings, Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren is only narrowly behind Auburn’s Smith. The big man is projected by multiple publications to go No. 1 overall and none have him outside of the first four picks.

3
Paolo Banchero

Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

(Duke: Big, Freshman, 6-10)

Previous rank: 2 (-1)

Best rank: 1 (Yahoo)

Worst rank: 5

While he doesn’t currently have as many publications projecting he will go No. 1 overall, there are still some believers in Duke’s Paolo Banchero as the top player in this class. No publications have him selected outside of the first five picks.

4
Jaden Ivey

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

(Purdue: Guard, Sophomore, 6-4)

Previous rank: 4 (+0)

Best rank: 2 (NBADraft.net, NBA Big Board)

Worst rank: 5

Purdue’s Jaden Ivey might not have a case for No. 1 overall, but among players who are not big men, the sophomore is almost definitely going to end up as the first person who will hear his name called on draft night. Multiple publications have him as the second-best prospect and none have him outside the first five picks.

5
AJ Griffin

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

(Duke: Wing, Freshman, 6-8)

Previous rank: 23 (+18)

Best rank: 4 (NBADraft.net, For The Win)

Worst rank: 13

After a relatively slow start to his collegiate tenure, Duke’s AJ Griffin has put his draft stock back on track as he continues to have an efficient freshman season. His blend of shooting touch and athleticism will earn him some fans around the league.

6
Johnny Davis

Mary Langenfeld-USA TODAY Sports

(Wisconsin: Guard, Sophomore, 6-5)

Previous rank: 7 (+1)

Best rank: 5 (Yahoo)

Worst rank: 9

Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis is one of the players who was able to improve his draft stock the most during the regular season. Although he wasn’t on many mock drafts and big boards before Wisconsin kicked off their schedule, he is now firmly in the top 10 on every mock we surveyed.

7
Jalen Duren

(AP Photo/Karen Pulfer Focht)

(Memphis: Big, Freshman, 6-10)

Previous rank: 6 (-1)

Best rank: 4 (ESPN)

Worst rank: 17

Memphis big man Jalen Duren is arguably the most polarizing prospect among the projected first-round picks. Although some have him as a top-five player in this class, others have him selected outside the lottery. His flashes of brilliance as a dominant defender will make him an interesting prospect to evaluate.

8
Keegan Murray

(AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall)

(Iowa: Big, Sophomore, 6-8)

Previous rank: 11 (+3)

Best rank: 6 (ESPN, Athletic, Yahoo)

Worst rank: 12

Iowa’s Keegan Murray is having one of the best seasons in college basketball and his excellent play has helped his draft stock quite a bit. No publications have him as a projected Top 5 pick. But none have Murray selected outside of the lottery, either.

9
Bennedict Mathurin

(AP Photo/Rick Scuteri)

(Arizona: Wing, Sophomore, 6-6)

Previous rank: 5 (-4)

Best rank: 6 (NBADraft.net, Basketball News)

Worst rank: 14

Arizona’s Bennedict Mathurin was considered an intriguing one-and-done candidate after his freshman season. But after returning to college for another campaign in the Pac-12, the sophomore has since firmly cemented his status as a consensus lottery pick.

10
TyTy Washington

Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

(Kentucky: Guard, Freshman, 6-3)

Previous rank: 12 (+2)

Best rank: 7 (CBS Sports)

Worst rank: 12

Kentucky’s TyTy Washington was a late riser as a prospect towards the end of high school. But he has turned himself into a very enticing guard who can very well become one of the first players at his position to get selected in the 2022 NBA draft.

11
Jaden Hardy

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

(Ignite: Guard, G League, 6-4)

Previous rank: 8 (-3)

Best rank: 9 (Yahoo)

Worst rank: 20

Due to inconsistency and inefficiency during his time while playing in the G League for the Ignite, Jaden Hardy has seen his draft stock fall quite a bit since before the season began. Although some still consider him a lottery talent because of his potential scoring ability, others are not as optimistic.

12
Kendall Brown

Chris Jones-USA TODAY Sports

(Baylor: Wing, Freshman, 6-8)

Previous rank: 9 (-3)

Best rank: 7 (NBA Big Board)

Worst rank: 26

Baylor’s Kendall Brown draft stock has gone down quite a bit, especially after the freshman failed to score more than a dozen points in a single game between Dec. 21 and Feb. 18. While his poor jump shot limits his overall impact, he looks good when cutting to the basket and in transition.

13
Shaedon Sharpe

Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

(Kentucky: Wing, Freshman, 6-5)

Previous rank: NR (NEW)

Best rank: 5 (NBA Big Board)

Worst rank: 14 (Not included in two mocks)

After reclassifying in the middle of the season, Kentucky’s Shaedon Sharpe is not expected to play college basketball in 2021-22. But the exciting freshman still has plenty of incentive to test the waters and declare for the upcoming draft even if he never steps on the floor during game action.

14
Ochai Agbaji

(AP Photo/Adam Hunger)

(Kansas: Wing, Senior, 6-5)

Previous rank: 18 (+4)

Best rank: 10 (CBS Sports)

Worst rank: 27

Thanks to an improved ability as a shooter and as someone who can run the pick and roll, Kansas wing Ochai Agbaji is now widely considered the top upperclassman in this class. While he was long known as a fantastic athlete, his improved shooting makes him a projected lottery pick.
