Unless Jones is claimed off waivers, the Celtics are responsible for the $2.038 million he’s due this season. Walden, a rookie from Eastern Kentucky, is expected to report to NBADL Maine.

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have waived forward Perry Jones III and guard Corey Walden. Jones, a 6’11” forward, was originally acquired by the Celtics on July 14, 2015 and averaged 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game in five appearances with the team.

Gary Washburn: #celtics officially waive Perry Jones and Corey Walden. Walden is likely headed to NBADL Maine. Jones may try to seek another NBA deal.

The Celtics have to finalize their roster by Monday. Corey Walden is expected to be waived and join the D-League Maine Red Claws. Perry Jones is most likely to be the final roster cut; the Celtics have 16 guaranteed contracts and 15 roster slots.
The roster decisions would seem to be rather clear-cut. Coty Clarke, Malcolm Miller, Levi Randolph and Corey Walden are likely on their way to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League eventually, leaving 16 guaranteed contracts for 15 available spots with the big club. Barring a deal that clears a contract, Perry Jones would seem to have the biggest burden of proof this week. “I haven’t talked to Danny (Ainge) about the final cuts at all,” Stevens said. “In fact, I haven’t done that really in my years here. They usually just tell me, ‘Hey, by the way, we have to make cuts soon.’ I think the biggest thing for Perry is, Perry has a chance to be a very, very good multi-positional defender, and he’s got a chance to be a guy that can play off closeouts, make shots or post switches. So being able to do those things regularly is a huge key. But I’ve been impressed with what Perry can do, what he has done, especially in practice.”
