Mavs the favorites to acquire Myles Turner?

Several competing executives (assuming Turner’s injury isn’t severe) believe the Mavericks are the favorite for Turner with Dwight Powell and one of Dorian Finney-Smith or Jalen Brunson. Dallas’ willingness to part with Finney-Smith or Brunson may come down to each player’s free-agent expectations.

Dwain Price: It’s a final: @Dallas Mavericks 105, Kings 99. Luka had 23-8-10, Tim had 16 pts, Dorian had 13-6, Dwight had 12-8, Frank scored 12 pts. Mavs are 4-2 and will host Miami on Tuesday.

After extending Luka Doncic and re-signing Tim Hardaway Jr. to long-term deals, the Mavericks are set to be over the cap over the next few years. They could look to lock up other core players and establish more tradeable salaries. Jalen Brunson and Dorian-Finney Smith are eligible for extensions worth up to $55.6 million over four years. Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are also eligible for extensions that can up to three more years.

The Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade to Miami isn’t in doubt, but it appears the reason it hasn’t been officially completed yet is that Toronto is now trying to re-home Goran Dragic. In statements to the media, Dragic expressed a desire to join the Mavericks and play with Luka Doncic, something Dallas is known to be interested in as well. To join as a third team in that deal, Dallas would have to send at least $14.4 million in salary to Toronto, something most easily done by combining Dwight Powell and Willie Cauley-Stein. But that’s also where it gets complicated.
