On Friday, November 18, the San Antonio Spurs announced that TelevisaUnivision will be the team’s Spanish-language broadcast partner for the rest of the 2022-23 season, according to a news release. During the season, a select number of basketball games will be played on UNIMAS 17. This move makes the Spurs the “only team in the NBA to have a dedicated Spanish-language television broadcast partner.”
The first game to be on the telecast will be the Saturday, November 19 game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The games will be part of “Sábado Spurs,” according to the release. The final game of the season will also be on the Spanish-language broadcast. Former Spurs player Fabricio Oberto will join the broadcast crew as the lead analyst with play-by-play announcer Paul Castro. Francisco Fuentes, Univision sports reporter, will be covering the game from the sidelines during the broadcast, according to the release.
Veteran broadcaster Bill Land returns for his 19th season of calling Spurs basketball as the lead play-by-play announcer and former Spur Sean Elliott is in his 21st year as the lead analyst. Former Spur Matt Bonner is back for his fourth season at the studio desk alongside primary host Dan Weiss. Fans will notice two new additions during select broadcasts this season – former sports reporter Michelle Beadle as a special correspondent and former Spurs center Fabricio Oberto as a studio analyst.
