The Orlando Magic have signed guard Jalen Suggs and forward Franz Wagner, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deals are not disclosed. Suggs (fifth overall) and Wagner (eighth overall) were both selected in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. Suggs (6’4”, 205, 6/3/01) played and started in 30 games last season as a freshman at Gonzaga University, averaging 14.4 ppg., 5.3 rpg., 4.5 apg. and 1.90 stlpg. in 29.0 minpg., while shooting .503 (155-308) from the floor.
12 San Antonio Spurs: COREY KISPERT. Teams drafting late in the first round have pursued this pick from San Antonio, according to league sources. If the Spurs stay put, the choice remains unclear. The Spurs have interest in Alperen Sengun and Franz Wagner, but they are both already off the board in this mock, as they may be on Thursday night. Keon Johnson has also been connected to San Antonio. But Kispert is the choice here because of the 3-point shooting he’d bring to a team thirsty for reliable marksmen.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that, if Golden State holds onto both picks, it’ll take a high-upside prospect at No. 7 and a plug-and-play player at No. 14. Numerous names have been linked to the Warriors at seven, but The Chronicle’s latest intel suggests that they’ve zeroed in on four players there: Kuminga, Giddey, Connecticut guard James Bouknight and Michigan forward Franz Wagner.
