Cleveland general manager David Griffin and his staff searched for trades to fit in the $4.4 million exception created last season by dealing Anderson Varejao, but couldn’t get anything done in time. There was also a $947,000 exception from trading Jared Cunningham to Orlando. Both expired at midnight.

Jiangsu Tongxi signed former NBA guard Jared Cunningham. The player comes from an NBA season spent with Cavaliers and Bucks.
The Bucks’ roster underwent another change on Saturday, as the team chose not to re-sign shooting guard Jared Cunningham. Cunningham was with the Bucks on a 10-day contract that ended on Friday. During his stint in Milwaukee, Cunningham appeared in four games. He averaged 4.0 points while shooting 28.6% from the floor as well as 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Jared Cunningham to a 10-day contract pursuant to the NBA’s hardship exception, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Cunningham, 24, most recently played for the Idaho Stampede of the NBA D-League, where he appeared in three games (all starts) and averaged 17.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 32.0 minutes per game. He began the season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he appeared in 40 games (three starts) and averaged 2.6 points in 8.9 minutes per game before being traded to, and waived by, Orlando on Feb. 18.
Marc Stein: ESPN sources say Jared Cunningham is on the brink of a 10-day call up to the Milwaukee Bucks from the Idaho Stampede in the @nbadleague
Chris Reichert: The Idaho Stampede have acquired Jared Cunningham as a returning player, per a league source #NBADL
Erik Gundersen: The Cavaliers top-10 protected pick becomes two 2nd rounders if it is not conveyed in 2018 or 2019, a league source said.
Adrian Wojnarowski: To take on Varejao’s deal, the pick that Cleveland sends to Portland will be a 2018 first-round pick, league sources tell @The Vertical.
Adrian Wojnarowski: The Portland Trail Blazers will likely waive Anderson Varejao, league sources tell @The Vertical.
Marc J. Spears: The Blazers also received a conditional first round pick from the Cavaliers, a source said.
Marc J. Spears: The Magic also acquired guard Jared Cunningham, who is expected to be waived, a source told Yahoo.
Poor Kevin Love scored 20 points in his return to Minnesota Friday night in a blowout win against the Timberwolves, but he apparently wasn’t invited to a postgame #squad photo that LeBron James posted on Instagram. Love fixed the photo by pasting his head over Jared Cunningham.
The non-guaranteed, one-year deal Cunningham signed in the offseason will become fully guaranteed at $981,348. The Cavaliers faced a 5 p.m. EST deadline to make a decision on retaining or releasing. Waiving him would have shed his remaining salary and he’d hit the waiver wire.
If the Cavaliers don’t make any changes to the roster this season, Cunningham’s earning would cost the team in the ballpark of an extra $3.8 million in luxury tax dollars on top of the $170 million or so they’ll fork out.
Harris’ potential surgery comes at an interesting time for Jared Cunningham, another fringe rotation player for the Cavs. Cleveland must decide by Friday whether to retain Cunningham for the rest of the season to have his contract clear waivers before it becomes fully guaranteed Jan. 10. Cunningham will accompany the Cavs on their road trip and the team is “leaning towards” keeping him for the rest of the season, according to a source, although no final decision has been made yet.
Keeping Cunningham could cost the Cavs more than $4 million all told between his $981,348 salary and the luxury tax fees it will bring, however owner Dan Gilbert has already made it clear that money is no object in his pursuit of a championship this season. Furthermore, a team source insisted to ESPN.com that Harris’ situation will not determine Cunningham’s security on the team moving forward.
Cunningham has been a locker room favorite. He’s the little brother to players such as Mo Williams, James Jones and most importantly LeBron James, who has taken him under his wing and is always giving him a hard time for his lack of knowledge when it comes to early to mid-’90s hip hop.
The Cavs are so far over the salary cap that Cunningham’s $980,00 contract is actually equivalent to $5 million Gilbert will have to pay when salary and luxury taxes are combined. He is the only player working on a non-guaranteed contract, meaning the Cavs can release him before Jan. 10 when all contracts become guaranteed and significantly reduce their tax bill.
The team still has two months to make that decision. If Cunningham has integrated himself into this system by then to the point that Blatt and General Manager David Griffin want to keep him, it’s highly likely Gilbert would allow them to keep him. There could be other, more creative ways to trim the roster and tax bill.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will release former Duke point guard Quinn Cook, giving Jared Cunningham a roster spot, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group. Cunningham secures the 15th and final roster slot.
Camp invite Jared Cunningham is by far the favorite to claim the 14th slot at this point. The team isn’t totally against taking on 15 by adding two roster hopefuls, but I’m told it would take an extraordinary effort on the part of the other invites to make that a possibility.
Cavaliers training camp invitee Jared Cunningham has only played 40 games in the NBA during spot appearances with Dallas, Atlanta, Sacramento and the Los Angeles Clippers over the course of the last three seasons. But should he make the Cavs’ roster, he already has enough footwear in his collection to last him the rest of this season — and the next 10 years, if he finds a way to stick in the league. “I have a bunch of shoes,” Cunningham said after Cleveland’s 110-101 preseason loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday. “Probably over like 1,600 [pairs]. I’m really into shoes.”
James has noticed Cunningham, and not just because the combo guard is the Cavs’ leading scorer at 15.0 points per game through Cleveland’s first four games of the preseason. “He says something every time he sees one of his old shoes on me,” Cunningham said. “So I’m definitely trying to influence him to put on a pair of the old LeBrons.”
The Cavaliers have signed center Michael Dunigan, the team revealed on its training camp roster, one that also officially confirmed earlier reports of deals with Jared Cunningham, Austin Daye, Chris Johnson, Nick Minnerath and D.J. Stephens. Quinn Cook also appears on the roster, so it looks like he and the team have worked out a deal, as expected. Cleveland has 20 players, 13 of whom have fully guaranteed contracts, though those totals don’t include Tristan Thompson, who remains in restricted free agency with Thursday looming as the final day for him to sign his qualifying offer before it expires. The Cavs would have to waive a player before signing Thompson, since they’re at the preseason roster limit.
It’s not the signing of Tristan Thompson or J.R. Smith, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are filling out the roster all the same. Free-agent guards Quinn Cook and Jared Cunningham have agreed to join the Eastern Conference champions for training camp. Their non-guaranteed deals have yet to be signed.
With the waiving of McGee, the Sixers have eight players – McGee, Jared Cunningham, Eric Maynor, Ronny Turiaf, Marquis Teague, Christapher Johnson, Jorge Guttierez and Andrei Kirilenko – who are on the 2014-15 payroll, but not on the active roster. Despite those players being worth around $20 million in salary, only McGee actually played in a game for the Sixers this season.
This is Cunningham’s third experience in the D-League, but his first as an unassigned player. Because he is an NBA free agent, he can be plucked away by any NBA team that wants to give him a chance. In six games with the 87ers, he is averaging 21.8 points and shooting 46.6 percent from the field. “There are a lot of NBA teams that might want to try and let him grow into his game,” one league scout said. “It would have made sense for the Sixers to keep him, but they didn’t. He might not be a pure point guard, but is Tony Wroten a pure point guard?”
The Los Angeles Clippers announced today they have traded guard Jared Cunningham, the draft rights to Cenk Akyol and cash considerations to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for the draft rights to Serhiy Lishchuk. Cunningham, who signed with the Clippers as a free agent on Sept. 29, 2014 appeared in 19 games this season averaging 1.8 points and 0.5 assists in 4.7 minutes.
Jon Santiago: Kings summer league roster (so far): McCallum, McLemore, Stauskas, Derrick Williams, Acy, Sim Bhullar, Nick Wiggins, Jared Cunningham and Eric Moreland. They cut Willie Reed yesterday in case you were unaware of that. @Shams Charania reported that first.
The Sacramento Kings today signed guard Jared Cunningham to a 10-day contract, according to Kings General Manager Pete D’Alessandro. In his second NBA season, Cunningham totaled two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3pt, 0-2 FT), one rebound, three assists and 22 minutes in five games off the bench for the Atlanta Hawks before being waived on February 22.
Jared Cunningham doesn’t expect to be out of the NBA long. The former Oregon State star has told The Oregonian that he plans to sign with a team within the week. Though Cunningham declined to specify his possible landing spots, he said he’s “looking at a few options right now.” The Atlanta Hawks released the 6-foot-4 guard late last month after recalling him from the D-League. He has averaged 16.5 points, five assists and 3.5 rebounds in 22 appearances with the Bakersfield Jam over four stints this season.

It is possible that Jared Cunningham, who will be inactive tonight against the Magic, and/or Jenkins could eventually be sent to the D-League for playing time. That could be the case when Lou Williams is returns. Young players need to be in games to continue their development.
