Pro basketball player Jarnell Stokes is partnering with veteran animation exec and producer Jay Fukuto (The Simpsons, King of the Hill) to co-write and produce Wings to Fly, an animated feature based on his sports-themed children’s book of the same name. The book published by Creation Nation Animation in April of 2020 is a redemption tale about a brilliant, but self-centered rising basketball star who is prematurely killed, only to discover his higher spiritual purpose helping a young girl.
Professional basketball player and producer Jarnell Stokes has signed with Babette Perry at Innovative Artists, who will rep him for both on-camera and production deals. Stokes is currently developing two drama series examining the ruthless intersection of sports, music and street culture in his hometown of Memphis.
Stokes is also exec producing projects under his Stoked Film Group banner including the horror-comedy Slayers, starring Abigail Breslin, Thomas Jane and Malin Akerman; the thriller Dig, starring Thomas Jane, Emile Hirsch and Liana Liberato; and the murder mystery Helen’s Dead, starring Annabelle Dexter-Jones and Tyrese Gibson, among others. Stokes played for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Sioux Falls Skyforce, and Denver Nuggets. He currently plays for the Chinese Basketball Association’s Xinjiang Flying Tigers, and continues to be represented by Tammy Hunt of CSP Management.
Professional basketball player Jarnell Stokes has signed on to exec produce three indie features: Friedrich Moser’s doc How to Build a Truth Engine, writer-director Chadd Harbold’s thriller Private Property, and writer-director Matthew Greene-DeLange’s family film, Skelly.
In addition to these projects, Stokes recently signed on to exec produce the biopic BB King: The King of Blues with music mogul Vassal Benford. The project centered on King’s inspirational life story was penned by Marvin Williams. Previously announced projects Stokes has signed on to exec produce under his recently-launched Stoked Film Group banner include the horror comedy Slayers, starring Abigail Breslin, Thomas Jane and Malin Akerman, and the thriller Dig, starring Thomas Jane, Emile Hirsch and Liana Liberato.
