Eddy Curry: The first road trip I went on, Kendall Gill was the first male that I saw who put so much into his hygiene. We’d take a shower, put on some lotion and get out of there. Kendall would take a shower, come out and do his hair, give himself a fresh haircut every time he got out of the shower. He’d put oils on and spray himself with all types of cologne. We went on the road, and the first time we got off the elevator going to our rooms, and there was a trail of rose petals going from the elevator to Kendall’s room. I’m like, “What the heck is going on?” He winked at us and said, “Yeah, young fella. You’ve got to step your game up.”
A former NBA star is inspiring the community to stay fit in the face of the pandemic. In March, Kendall Gill decided to stop sitting around as the Covid-19 crisis intensified. Word got out and now the 60/40 Club, headed by the retired basketball player, meets on Chicago’s South Side at Dunbar Park. Gill, who is an icon of Illini basketball and a graduate of Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, helps friends meet the 60/40 challenge. It is comprised of a 60 yard sprint, followed by a 40 yard jog, done twenty times, followed by 20 each of squats, push-ups, sit-ups, tabletops and planks. The next day, the number is increased to 21– and so on until 45.
“Now let’s talk about LeBron. LeBron is just a physical freak of nature. 6’8” 260lbs, can jump out – in my opinion, LeBron is the best ATHLETE to play in the NBA. But skill wise, he is NOT on the level of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. I know he’s a three-time champion if he continues to be the all time leading scorer in the League, however he’s not on that with those guys as far as skills and that’s why I had to put it – this is me. I’m gonna go: Michael. Kobe. LeBron. That’s how I put ’em.”
