The salary for G Leaguers who are not on “two way” deals for this season is $35,000. Should Colson, Randolph and Simmons all fail to make the Cavs, they’ll head to Canton. Randolph earned $200,000 from SIG Strasbourg, a pro club in France, last season. “For me it’s not about the money at this point,” said Randolph, 26, who has two degrees in marketing science from Alabama. “If it was about the money, I can go get a job. For me it’s about a goal, a dream. I aspire to play at the highest level and so, that’s why I’m here. It’s not, I mean, the money, that will come. They say you can go broke before 30, that’s the best time to go broke because you have time to break it up. So right now I’m young. I’m still trying to reach my goal and my dream and that’s why I’m here.”
The roster decisions would seem to be rather clear-cut. Coty Clarke, Malcolm Miller, Levi Randolph and Corey Walden are likely on their way to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League eventually, leaving 16 guaranteed contracts for 15 available spots with the big club. Barring a deal that clears a contract, Perry Jones would seem to have the biggest burden of proof this week. “I haven’t talked to Danny (Ainge) about the final cuts at all,” Stevens said. “In fact, I haven’t done that really in my years here. They usually just tell me, ‘Hey, by the way, we have to make cuts soon.’ I think the biggest thing for Perry is, Perry has a chance to be a very, very good multi-positional defender, and he’s got a chance to be a guy that can play off closeouts, make shots or post switches. So being able to do those things regularly is a huge key. But I’ve been impressed with what Perry can do, what he has done, especially in practice.”
