“I knew that it was difficult. Back in Italy, I could wait until the game come to me.” He plans to go home after the season and return to work out with the Pistons in May. At 26, he has one year left on his contract for $1.75 million.
Datome was sheepish when asked about his three-point shooting percentage this season with the Pistons. Considered one of the top shooters in Europe, he has made seven of 38 three-pointers (18.4%). Granted it’s a small sample size and he hasn’t played much. But he would be the first to say he hasn’t capitalized on his few opportunities. “My percentage is terrible,” he said after the Palace finale on Sunday — a 116-107 loss to the Raptors. “It’s not easy to sit for five, six games and then play maybe 5 minutes of garbage time.”
