Obi Toppin RumorsAll NBA Players
The player to suffer most from Reddish’s entry into the rotation could be rookie shooting guard Quentin Grimes, who has become a staple the past month after being taken in the first round. But the Knicks also believe Reddish can play some power forward in a small-ball alignment. That could also affect 2020 lottery pick Obi Toppin. It took some time for Grimes to earn Thibodeau’s trust and now he’s got it. “Just probably getting him indoctrinated into the NBA,’’ Thibodeau said. “We always knew these are things we like about him in the draft. His defense is special. He can guard four positions really well. His shot profile is terrific. He takes the right shot.’’
Toppin said he “didn’t have a lot of symptoms” after testing positive for COVID-19, but he mostly spent his 10 days idled in his bedroom away from his family. He said he worked out with elastic bands and watched “a lot of basketball” and a couple of Netflix shows. “Man, I was aching in that bed. I’ve never been in bed for that long,” Toppin said. “Like, that was the longest 10 days of my life, I ain’t gonna lie to you.”

The Knicks now have three players in COVID-19 protocols as rookie shooting guard Quentin Grimes has been ruled out Tuesday vs. the Warriors. Grimes is coming off a breakout 27-point performance Sunday vs. Milwaukee when he hit a rookie record seven 3-pointers. Knicks power forward Obi Toppin, who previously had the hot hand, was put into protocols Saturday night and missed the game against the Bucks. RJ Barrett was put into protocols Sunday morning and was also absent.
