The Mexican Football Federation has approved the sale of roughly 50% of Liga MX’s Club Necaxa to a group led by real estate investor Al Tylis and D.C. United executive Sam Porter. The deal, which Sportico first reported last month, values the club in the low nine-figures. It is the first major investment by Americans into Mexico’s top soccer league. The governing body’s approval was unanimous, Porter said Monday in an interview. Three NBA players—Miami Heat guard Victor Oladipo and retired All-Stars Richard Hamilton and Shawn Marion—have also joined the group as minority investors, according to Porter.

“You kind of go back to the old Detroit team that won it,” a longtime Western Conference scout said, referring to the 2003-04 Pistons, whose lone All-Star that season was Ben Wallace, a defensively dominant big man and Detroit’s sixth-leading scorer. “They just had a lot of really good players. “I thought Utah needed another star, but I’ve changed on that.”
Paul Pierce, Doug Collins, Michael Cooper and Lauren Jackson headline the group of first-time nominees for the 2021 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class, announced Tuesday on ESPN’s The Jump. Also joining the first-time group is Howard Garfinkel, Lou Henson, Val Ackerman and Yolanda Griffith, to go with popular returning candidates Chauncey Billups, Chris Bosh, Richard Hamilton, Becky Hammon, Swin Cash and Ben Wallace.
Despite not being a player for Washington, MJ use to come to practices and play. Hamilton and Laron Profit would often play Jordan and trash talk him. Until one day Profit stepped over the line after he got the better of the Bulls legend in one play. “Me and Prof [Laron Profit] used to play with him [Jordan] all the time,” Hamilton remembered. “We used to talk trash to MJ all the time but there were certain things that I wouldn’t say. And Prof sometimes would say a little of extra stuff that I wouldn’t go there.” “I remember when one time when we were playing in practice. And Prof might have hit a shot on MJ and he was like running down court “You can’t guard me with them old-ass knees.” And I’m like “Oh, stop, time out!” You don’t say that to the GOAT. MJ was heated.” Jordan was so mad that he traded Profit to the Orlando Magic.
According to Hamilton, Bryant was the only player he was ever scared to play against. Here are his full comments: First of all, whoever voted and put Kobe [at 10] just flat out disrespected him. I feel like Kobe Bryant is the closest guy to Michael Jordan that we have ever seen. When you look at his stats and see, yes, he was an 18-time All-Star, he was a 15-time All-NBA player, tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but when Magic Johnson comes out and says Kobe Bryant is the best Laker of all time, that means better than him, and better than the guy Magic played with, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
