T.J. Ford will play in the 2018 season of the Big3 league six years after retiring from the NBA following a number of scares to his surgically repaired spine. Ford, 34, told ESPN analyst Stephen Jackson in a text that he agreed to a deal with the half-court league founded by Ice Cube that features former NBA players. The Big3’s inaugural season wrapped in late August, with the Rick Mahorn-coached team Trilogy featuring Kenyon Martin, Al Harrington and Rashad McCants winning the championship, played at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

T.J. Ford has about as good a read on Toronto’s new point guard tandem as anyone. That’s because the former Raptors standout once mentored free agent signee Cory Joseph and forged a close relationship with incumbent starter Kyle Lowry through four years of hard off-season training. “I really like the combination and I think they did a good job and I think it’s a good fit,” Ford told the Toronto Sun Monday over the line from Charlotte where he is helping with a basketball camp.
On the record, Ford says the right things, commendable things. “At some point,” he told Sporting News, “if it doesn’t go the way you see it going, if you put everything you had into it, you should be able to value the outcome.” But those close to Ford can’t help but wonder. “I would like to have seen, without all of these injuries, how good he could have really been,” Cassell said. “He’d been pretty good. Nah, he’d been real good.”
The Bucks trailed the Timberwolves by 13 points with 4:34 to play when Ford came off a side pick-and-roll, attacking the lane. Ford –listed at 6-0, but according to Ivey, more like “5’9, with Timberlands on” – crashed into Mark Madsen, 6-9 and husky. Tailbone first, he fell. Few seem to remember that the shot went in, that a foul was called. They only remember that Ford never got up to shoot the free throw. “The game at that point becomes irrelevant,” said Porter. “You think about a young man’s life.”
