The Nuggets enter the 2019-20 season possessing some of the most exciting rookies in franchise history. Former McDonald’s All-American MVP Michael Porter Jr. is set to see some action this season, while Bol Bol has drawn a lot of attention with his potential as a 7-foot-2 center with range. Nuggets President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly believes fans will also be impressed with what they see out of recent European import Vlatko Čančar. “Vlatko has done of great job of developing since we drafted him,” Connelly said in an interview with Altitude Sports Radio 92.5 FM on Thursday. “He’s going to surprise people with his ability to guard several positions. He’s a really bright kid, a really tough kid, a humble guy that will continue to develop.”
Vlatko Cancar: I’m excited to be out in Denver working out with the guys who I’ll be teammates with in Las Vegas. This is a talented group and I think if we can get to know each other and develop chemistry, it will be interesting to see where it will take us. My focus is trying to secure a spot on the Nuggets roster for next season. It would be a pretty big deal for me and I’m going to keep being humble and working hard in trying to reach that goal.

Connelly has been impressed with the Vlatko Cancar’s development and acknowledged the forward could be a potential roster addition in the near future. “We’ve had a lot of luck of drafting guys and let them develop a bit more internationally. In the last two years, he’s taken huge steps towards being on our roster,” Connelly said. “I thought he had a very big summer league last summer, he’s a guy who’s going to wear a Nuggets uniform sooner rather than later.”

When I asked Vlatko Cancar, following his summer league debut last Friday, about the prospects of playing in the NBA next season, Malone stood inches away from the young, 6-8 forward, a mischievous smile on the coach’s face. “I want to take it step by step,” Čančar said. “This is my third year playing professional basketball. It would be great if I’m in the NBA, but I would like to play more minutes in Spain, in the ACB.” Then Malone stepped in. “That’s a good answer right there,” he said. “Smart.”
Still, the Nuggets were impressed by the glimpse they got of [Vlatko Cancar]. He’s already got NBA size. He’s not a great athlete and he plays a little stiff, but he has a strong feel and a knack for creating the space he needs to operate. His most impressive attribute is his consistency for being in the right spot to make a play. “He has a great feel for the game,” Nuggets summer league coach Jordi Fernandez said. “He plays at the wing spot, he can play pick-and-roll, he can pass the ball, he can move. He plays at the four, he can make shots. He rebounds, he’s long.”
Harrison Wind: As expected, draft picks Michael Porter Jr and Jarred Vanderbilt will not play at Summer League for the Nuggets. Here’s the team’s full roster including 2017 draft-and-stash Vlatko Cancar, who’s playing for Slovenia in 2019 World Cup qualifiers right now.
