Dinwiddie expects it to be for the season. "I landed on red eye and was headed to the practice facility and (general manager) Jeff Bowers called me and said I was going down for the rest of the season, and I said OK," Dinwiddie said after Tuesday's practice. As for his reaction, Dinwiddie added: "There's nothing really more to say about it. A lot of people ask me for extended thoughts and I honestly just said, 'OK.' The Pistons hold the option for the 22-year-old's contract next year, and Drive coach Otis Smith said the second-year guard out of Colorado can determine his future. "If you asked him today, he'd say they're not going to pick it up," Smith said. "But I'm not too sure. I think it's still up in the air. I think it depends on how much work he's willing to put in and get better. Not only physically, but mentally." Dinwiddie's attitude "is great," Smith added, "and he's more cerebral than we give him credit for. But he sees and thinks himself into a corner sometimes and you have to help him through that process and call him out on it. You have to talk to him a lot."
Dinwiddie won't look beyond that. As for his future, he said: "I'm not management so I have no idea. It's not like they gave me anything concrete and said, 'You're our point guard of the future.' That's Reggie (Jackson). So, pretty much, I'm doing my job, doing what I'm told and whatever the future holds is out of my control other than playing hard and helping the Grand Rapids Drive win games."

Michele Roberts calls out Sixers GM Daryl Morey

In an exclusive statement to Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill, Roberts urged everyone to be respectful and supportive of Simmons as he works through a tough time. She also called out Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s comments about continuing this standoff with Simmons for the four remaining years of his contract. “Really? Is it so hard to believe that Ben’s not mentally at a place to compete? Professional athletes — like the rest of us — have difficult periods in our lives that require time and energy to heal. We have and will continue to provide Ben with the support and resources he needs to work through this. Threatening the prospect of ‘another four years’ serves no one’s interests. Like Tobias [Harris], I say let’s respect Ben’s space and embrace him while allowing him the time to move forward. “So, take a breath and count to 10: We are all too good to continue to play this perpetual game of chicken.”

The Wizards then flipped a draft pick for Aaron Holiday and signed Spencer Dinwiddie as part of the trade. Kuzma put on his GM hat after Friday’s game to evaluate the deal in hindsight. “I mean, you gotta do that trade 10 out of 10 times. If you have an opportunity to get five good basketball players for one, it makes sense. Granted, [Westbrook is] obviously a Hall of Fame player and everything. He’s an unbelievable player, don’t take that wrong,” Kuzma said.
